I drove a 197 on the weekend as I was thinking if getting rid if the 5 as it's a daily. I was sure I was gonna by it, low kays good price, good condition drove 5 min in it and never thought about it ever again. For a 2.0l with 145kw the power down low was absolutely unacceptable and the steering was horribly vague. I remember driving the rs 200 a while back and it was incredible but apparently the 200 has 20% more torque at 2k rpm and quicker steering but it was nothing like the rs 197... Glad you finally sore the light [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES].

As far as pads go, I'm running hawk hps front and rear for dd/spirited driving. it might just be my brakes needing a bleed ( which is very possible ) but right now I find them average not much bite or overall power but I think after I bleed they should be a lot better.

Have fun!!!! I forgot how good my na8 was.

Your problem is the pads. My experience with the hps were sh*t. Changed pads and happy days.

Yeah was never sold on the 197..... Give a 172 or 182 a blast, heaps more low down torque.

You really need to be up a 197 for it to be fun, almost don't come alive till 5k

So I bought myself some king springs with kYB excel shocks

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397283364.496413.jpg

Removed them fine but had issues with getting one of the top nut undone when using the spring compressor..... And then the spring compressor seized ....

Balls I say.....

So I now have to get a new spring compressor and find some way of getting the nut undone......it's spinning and the shock shaft isn't, but it won't come undone, obviously threaded, but I'm not sure how to get the bastard off. Thinking perhaps a dremel adventure..... We'll see

Suspension went in on the weekend
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1398240077.297688.jpg

Also grabbed some 15" wheels off a member and gave them a couple of coats of black.....

Have decided to run the mx5 in the next round of the CSCA supersprint series instead of the clio.

Unfortunately it's at smp nth circuit and not the Sth ...... The tired 1.6 will probably need a bit of a rest half way down the straight

The bonnet and hardtop need a spray as well, I'll get to that eventually

Next thing is to fix the dreaded SNC issue.....

Does anyone know where to get the loctite fix kit?

Alright so I have been meaning to update this thread for ages

I ended up bolting a supercharger to the v tired old NA and it was an interesting process/experience, most of it is here

Budget NA6 supercharge build viewtopic.php?t=66589

For those who couldn't be bothered to read I ended up getting 110atwkw (Dyno'd) out of it on the stock ecu.

I took it to Wakefield and had major issues with a slipping clutch and then with a range of pipe blow offs etc.

So since I was going to have to replace the clutch I just decided to pull out the whole engine and put in the Na8 motor with cams that I have.

Work has commenced, the motor is out

And the process of stripping the car and putting the cage in has commenced [WINKING FACE]

Next steps are to get a lightened flywheel and FM clutch, then install the motor and LSD, get the Megasquirt installed and tune her up ....... Easy [FLUSHED FACE]

Wade's NA6

Postby wade » Sat Mar 26, 2016 10:19 pm

Ok so some progress.

I spent the last two days out at the workshop and stripped the old engine taking the accessories and the gearbox off.

Next I installed the new FM flywheel and clutch [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH]

Then gearbox cleaned and bolted on

Then she is in [WINKING FACE]

Having access to a hoist does make it a bit easier. [WINKING FACE]

We actually also threw a motor and box into an Nb rolling shell with a weld in 9 point cage and did all the running gear (lsd, diver shafts etc ect) as well as running the loom so it was a productive start to the weekend [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH]

Good stuff! When did you get your cam cover cut and painted? I also spy a silver bonnet, cutting vents?

Think it needs a red hardtop, Uno mines for sale, right ;)

Thanks Steve

It's the 1.8 I bought ages ago that has the tithe cams, adjustable cam gears and a coolant reroute (well part of one at least)

The silver bonnet is painted black and has aerocatches

I still have the original bonnet nice and safe.

I saw your bonnet and actually sent it too a friend. With the bonnet being matt black I think that the roof is fine [WINKING FACE]
