Just a little side note Ladies and Gents. In 3 weeks time the first Exocet frames arrive. When they get here every resource in the workshop is committed to getting them built and the first car on the road. This means that from the 1st May, I won't be accepting any jobs until they're completed. So if you want one of these bike racks, best to get your order in soonish.

Flew???

It depends how many there are. Will take about 4 hours per rack. I'm just waiting on a call from a mate of mine about the legality of the rack and how much the bikes hang out the side of the car. If he comes back saying it's no good I've already got another design ready to go.

There isn't much flex at all. It's pretty rigid. Problem I found was mainly in the stock springs. With 50 odd kilos that far behind the wheels there was a fair bit of bounce to the rear. I'll see what the new design is like tomorrow.

Bottom of the rack is 10mm higher than the bottom of the lower suspension arm

Also have a look at the MX-5's "Angle of Departure".

Ok so as far as overhang goes, your legally allowed 150mm either side of your car. NB external dimensions are 1680wide, +150 + 150 gives you 1980 mm. My bike, as an example is 1810mm tyre to tyre so we're good!!

As far as angle of departure goes, every car will be different.(age, springs, lowered or not etc etc) I am only building a set design for a set price. If you'd like something custom built to match your particular car, then by all means I am happy to do that but keep in mind:

- I'm in Newcastle
- a custom job would be twice the price
- a custom job from an ordinary workshop will probably be 3 times the price

I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ here guys but the difference between this and say, a roll bar is that this mounts under the car where most people make changes, as opposed to on top of the car where most cars stay standard
