If you are patient, $3000 will buy you a manual 200K+ NA6 with faded red paint, perished suspension and a cloudy rear window.

I would pay $1500 less for an auto in the same condition.

OP, can you drive manual?
If you can't, learn.
If you have a disability and can't, then proceed with the auto.

An mx5 is not just about it's looks, it is for driving too. I don't mean hooning either, you can have so much fun roof down cruising along.
An auto is horrid, and imho defeats the purpose of an mx5.

Autos and MX5's- I wonder how many of those making this conclusion have ever dríven an NC with paddle shifters? Almost all modern sportscars offer some form of non manual shifting.

And that form of non-manual shifting rarely, if ever, gets used. The only ones worth using are on more expensive cars.

Going back to the sports car argument from the Daily Drive thread, a sports car should have a true manual gear shift, IMO.

bzbzbz has posted that he/she is looking to pay no more than $5000. It'll be many years before an auto NC meets that criteria.

Just wondering what is the market price for a secondhand 1997 1.8L Auto NA? Assume that it is mechanically sound and has 200k of mileage.
How much will you pay for it?

I wouldn't buy it.

Someone in Sydney needs to step up to the plate and mentor this Bloke lest he/he gets burnt.

A friend of mine test drove an auto NA8 and said the auto box was weird and not fun at all.
It's all personal preference of course.
