Fumoto Oil Drain Valve Expressions of Interest in Group Buy

Postby kalt » Tue Apr 01, 2014 3:47 pm

Just putting this out there for anyone interested in purchasing Fumoto Oil Drain Valve as pictured below.

It replaces the existing sump plug, making oil changes simpler and somewhat cleaner and at times less painful process.

As far as I know, none of the sponsors for this site sell this item. Please let me know and remove this post if in violation.

Another car forum (clubcj.net) are offering a Group Buy with the following discounts:

10+ valves – 10% off
20+ valves – 20% off
50+ valves – 25% off
100+ valves – 30% off (~A$21 each)

The Chief Buyer is based in Victoria so the order will be sent to Victoria first, distribution to other states at additional cost based on the weight and size of units ordered. Ideally, best to get a few per state to justfiy postage costs, then distribute at your leisure.

Personally, prefer the nippled units (tell me who doesn't?! ;)) and are a few bucks more.

I will open the EOI until Tuesday 7th April unless withdrawn earlier.

Cheers
Al

FYI these will not fit the sump unless you get the adapter as well. Just installed one on my engine. And you might run into clearance issues withe the subframe if you get the nippled version

Thanks for the feedback and1.

So the valve won't seat well on the sump without the adapter - good to know! Understandably, with the adapter fitted the valve will poke out and touch the subframe, so use a funnel to catch the oil straight into bottle, rather than a tube on nipple.

I believe the discount applies to the adapter pricing too, the adapters being $8AUD each it's not huge money.

The nippled version is definitely worth the extra few dollars.

Oil changes are mess free, by hooking up a his and draining straight into a container.

Fumoto Oil Drain Valve Expressions of Interest in Group Buy

Call me a pessimist but I think the nipples version has some safety concerns for your engine. The regular version need the valve actuated AND the "valve plug" removed.

Or does the nipples version come with the plug as well? So remove plug, fit nipple, drain and reverse?

Also, maybe it's a taptalk issue but what's the price before the discounts?

Not at all.

The valve replaces the stock drainage bolt completely and stays on the sump, it is all in one unit that does not come apart(not user servicable).

The valve is just like your typical water tap ball&socket joint, the hole inside is only ~5mm in diameter which might mean drainage time will take longer compared to stock drainage bolt hole size. You can remove the valve after drainage to clear any sedimentation build up around the sump hole.

The nippled version features a tube like extension at the end of the drain hole on the valve, this allows for a tube/pipe attached to direct the oil to desired location (such as directly into a waste bottle for disposal, rather than a bucket or basin that will have to be emptied again). If the adapter is required then go nippleless and use a funnel (to bottle).

The standard prices from fumoto.com.au website:
F-106 14mm-1.5 $30
F106N 14mm-1.5 $34

There are many various sizes available for most make of cars: https://fumoto.com.au/sizes.php

Actually, it would be good for the gearbox oil drain bolt as it seems common for the wrong bolt to be taken out - and reduce chance of gearbox rebuild headache.

Sorry must not have been clear. The regular valved version looks like it has a plug downstream of the valve (where the nipple fitting would screw in) which is removed with an Allen key.

So you would remove the plug, then open the valve. Close the valve reinstate the plug. This means that should something knock the lever of the valve to the open position, no oil would drain out.

With the nipple version if the nipple is all that's supplied then should something open the valve (rock, stick, gravel trap?) then your oil will happily drain out of the sump.

I have the nipple version, I ordered it with a small spring clip (which fumoto sell) that goes over the valve to stop it from opening accidentally. Had it on there for over a year now with no issues.

Looks like this.

^ green_comet is right, picture shows when valve is closed, clip prevents accidental opening of the valve.

Another method to secure
