There is nothing expensive about racing an MX5 or any car really.

Both good cars for budget Motorsport. But there is no cheap racing.

That number's probably more of new car sales rather than the total carpark, counting the dual-clutch thingies as autos.

Of new cars on carsales 17,907 are manual, 48,509 auto. Manual = 27%, auto 73%. DSG etc has caused surprisingly little change compared with the total market.

Thats because DSG is expensive complicated electronic sh*t designed by smart arsed engineers to keep the service dept in profit.

Sailholic was right I did take a punt on the auto % but the punt was not targeted i.e. the depth of the lake is 3 feet but you drown in the middle- so my guess needs more info.

I did look it up and the following was extracted for 2010- and the % is going up. Its said that many drivers cannot even get the hours up on manual cars because the family only owns an auto- obvious I guess.

The percentages of autos are Light cars 59% small cars 73% medium 94.6Z% large 93.8Z% people movers 97.5% sportscars 80.9% SUV 83.6%. Not sure of all the breakdowns of vehicles.

What is blindingly obvious is that we are the land of the auto. Owning a large car with an manual is definitely limiting its saleability and I cannot see this trend reversing.

So if one talks about larger cars a figure of 90% is quite realistic.

Owning a fast car is easier than driving a car, fast.

Well that also depends on what you mean by 'racing'?

Clearly there is cost involved in sprints/track days/racing/motorsports or whatever you want to call it.

At club level I still maintain there is not much expense involved in track days. Now all that also depends on how heavily modified you car is, the condition of the car and components, how many track days you do in a year, if you tow your car or drive it there etc.

Its not like you need to spend $10k on the car to go to track events, or strip the engine down every so many km's for a check up or rebuild etc.

If you only do a handlfull of club level sprints a year its not that costly. Yes there is more/quicker wear and tear on brakes/tyres etc but thats a given. I didnt say it costs nothing but whats a set of tyres?

Thread revival madness! This has happened:

84 thou km's good mechanical condition, decent paint & panels. i washed, polished & cleaned interior over the weekend also replaced wipers & the licence plate but need a new plate bracket for front as it's quite crap. some of things i am not happy about are a couple of dings in the doors + rear quarter which i will end up fixing, the floor mats are some cheapo items that aren't OEM & the cigarette lighter is missing.. also the previous owner has placed tape on the insides of the air con vent balls so they are not adjustable/moving.. not sure why he would do that..or how i take them out! i spoke to ajay at mania who said that its common the NB8B vents become loose over time & no longer stay in place, i.e. they dont stay in the position you set them to..he said they can be replaced with new items so thats on the list also. Anyone experienced this before or have any write ups on air con vent removal?

otherwise im happy with it. ive got a good idea of how i want it set up, but all in time - for now it will remain a daily & stocker.

Hey, congratulations on the new aquisition!

So what happened to the green auto Na?
A clean, low mileage, NB8b/c is a great place to start for a fun project car, nice colour too.
I look forward to seeing what you get up to with the new toy.
