School me on Cams Licences please

Postby mazmad » Sun Apr 06, 2014 8:28 am

Ok. So CAMS have 4 circuit race Licences. PCC CC PC and NC. What is the difference?

I understand some events require a higher licence, the NC (National Circuit). And I think the difference between PC and NC is doing a flaggies day and 3 Cams events.

So what is the difference between PCC CC and PC? (Other than $160 per ann) ?

Confused.

Mazmad contact the organisers of the event that you want to compete in an ask. I know I have just copied and pasted from the CAMS site below, but it helps to understand my logic/thinking.

You may require an observed licence test as well as a medical before applying for certain CAMS licences. In QLD at least organisations like SDT and Paul Stokell do OLT's during their track days.

From my understanding Level 2 licences do not require an OLT:

http://www.cams.com.au/get-involved/competitors/licence-types
Level 2 licences are the basic club level motor sport licence. There are two types of Level 2 licence - Non Speed (L2NS) and Speed (L2S).

A L2NS licence entitles the competitor to compete in events such as observed section trials, touring assemblies, non-timed road events, motorkhanas, khanacross and drifting events, up to International level.

A L2S licence entitles the holder to compete in L2NS events plus regularity trials up to National Championship level, single and multi-car speed events (not racing) up to International level, and touring road events that do not run over closed road sections.

http://www.cams.com.au/get-involved/competitors/observed-licence-tests-(olt)

What is an OLT?
An OLT is a test of practical skill, where CAMS approved instructors observe you under modified Race conditions. The OLT is a critical component of the application stage. It provides a means that you have a basic understanding and knowledge of manoeuvring a vehicle at high speeds to ensure the safety of both yourself, and others including Drivers, Officials and Spectators.

You will need to complete an OLT if you intend to apply for any of the following licences:
NC National Circuit
PC Provisional Circuit
NR National Rally
CR Clubman Rally
PSK Provisional Superkart
NO National Offroad
NOJ National Offroad Junior

CC Clubman Circuit
PCC Provisional Clubman Circuit
NRJ National Rally Junior
PSKJ Provisional Superkart Junior
NOS National Offroad Stadium
NONJ National Offroad Navigator Junior

Prior to Booking in for an OLT
By this stage you should have;
•Submitted a Licence Application Form (with a completed Medical from your own Doctor) to Customer Service (customerservices@cams.com.au)
•You would have then received an email with the online lecture and successfully completed it.
•You have been issued with a Pre-Licence Authority (PLA) from Customer Service.

Booking an OLT

•Rally - OLTs are required if your under 25 years of age and can be conducted by entering and competing in any 2 motorkhana, khanacross, autocross or sprints. You will be required to get the clerk of course to sign the PLA.
•Superkarts - OLTs can be conducted by entering an event, usually completed during qualifying at events and PLA to be signed by the Clerk of the Course.
•Off Road - OLTs are completed at the prologue of events and PLA to be signed by the Clerk of the Course.
•Circuit -
•CAMS OLTs
•NSW - OLTs are generally held the Friday before the state championship race meetings. To book in contact the NSW office (nsw@cams.com.au) or book online via the CAMS Event Entry System.
•VIC - OLTs are generally held the Friday before the state championship race meetings. To book in contact the VIC office (info@cams.com.au) or book online via the CAMS Event Entry System.
•QLD - Held during the practise session of the first race. You will need to contact the event organiser.
•TAS - Due to the limited demand OLTs are conducted on a as need basis. Contact the state office for more information.
•WA - Contact the WA Sporting Car Club for Barbagallo Raceway (08 9306 8022) or Motoring South West for Collie Motorplex (08) 9734 7477 directly to book an OLT.
•SA - Book into a race meeting and participate in the practise and qualifying sessions.
•Other Providers - For a list of third-party providers in your state with contact details click here.

Obtaining a PC without completing OLT
To obtain a PC licence without completing an OLT you must have completed either (only CAMS events)
•5 super sprints or regularity within 2 years
•Two tarmac rally events within two years
•Or held a AKA B Grade licence or higher or hold a CAMS NSK/ISKC licence.

If you have done the above, send your application and a copy of your 5 results (off Natsoft or similar) to our customer service team (customerservices@cams.com.au) and state that it is to go towards your application. After which you will need to complete the online circuit lecture which will be forwarded to you.

NOTE: to obtain NC after your receive your PC you will need to complete 3 race meets and track side participation.

Down load forms from CAMS site.
Book in for FULL medical, doesn't have to be with a CAMS approved doctor.
See the stewards at Wakefield to see if any of them are CAMS officals and if they will/can do your OT. If not talk to CAMS.Your previous experience should be enough.
Do the online flags etc test.
Pay ya money and you will get a PCC, which is all you need for normal races, you will need a NC for Bathurst.

Hopefully you will have an easier time than me ( I'm a cyclops)

Thanks guys. I actually have my PCC already so have jumped through the hoops. But not clear on the difference in the levels from there, just been told elsewhere that P is provisional until you have completed 5 (Cams) events.

Why would you fork out for $440 for a PC (when PCC is $280) until you have done the 5 events and flaggies to get an NC......

Because you won't get it. The 'P' (I am told) does stand for 'Provisional', and before you can upgrade to a CC (not NC) you need to jump those hurdles - it is not just being able to cough up the readies. Note, The CC and PCC cost the same.

I don't know what the requirements are to upgrade from a CC to NC, but I suspect it is more than completing the CC requirements. And, as I don't move in those circles, I can't say what events (national-level race meetings?) would require an NC.

Last I heard, racing at Bathurst required a CC (ie no longer 'provisional'), but I may have that wrong, or it may have changed since then (FOSC 2006-7 era).

The difference is basically cost.
Both PCC and PC are the same essentially, i.e provisional licences. One will let you race at State level meetings, the other at National, Shannons and V8 meetings.

The CC and NC are both the same grade of licence, just the CC is $280 vs $480 for the NC. Difference is again, like above, the CC is state level and the NC is National level. If you do one national event a year you can for a one off upgrade to do a National meeting, otherwise it's pay the extra $200 to do the National meetings. Then some categories, that won't worry 99% of us need international licences, think V8's, where the cost is up around a $1k or so, haven't checked the fees for a while/

Thanks guys.

Yeah Ed I thought the same, an NC was required for Bathurst. But seems for the upcoming Easter Prod Sports round a CC is adequate - hence my querying.....as Bathurst is definitely on the wish list for the future !! :D
