BP and 5spd into another Mazda/Escort - gearbox mounting?

Postby ewokracing » Fri Mar 28, 2014 4:00 pm

Hi guys

I've googled and can't seem to find an answer.

I want to put a BP 1.8 and 5spd into a Mazda 1300. Problem - how to mount the gearbox since the MX5 gearboxes seem to have the side mount and use the brace.

You guys that have put them in escorts and kit cars etc, how did you do it?

OR

Is there another Mazda gearbox I can use that has a mounting position under the gearbox (like a RX-7 series 4 gearbox). The Mazda 1300 has a flat gearbox crossmember with a dip in the middle to suit the rubber mount.

Thanks

I havent checked mine yet for this,

But i think hes talking about better support than the stock mx5 stuff for the mx5 gear box.

Could maybe weld a bracket to the bottom of the box? But, i havent checked so im just guessing.

I was just interested how other people have swapped the MX gearboxes into other cars. I suppose I could mount something on the factory mount locations and still have a rubber mount underneath it and use the factory 1300 crossmember.

I would have to check with the other guys running this combo as well, but this is the way I did my earlier Escort shell, welded what needed to be there onto the MX5 gearbox,

^ forgot to ask you Warren, what did you do for the sump? I need a rear sump bowl to work with my 1300, but BP motors are front sump.

I can't find the link about that 808 coupe years ago that used a Ford Laser sump

^ ah. Had a brain melt. I actually need something like a mid mount sump so that the sump bowl fits between the drag link and the crossmember.
