Not so simple as hacking a bonnet:
Holes may be cut in the bonnet to allow the protrusion of an air cleaner or carburettor above the bonnet line providing the protrusions remain underneath the bonnet scoop. In these circumstances, the bonnet scoop or raised bonnet section must be manufactured from mild steel of equivalent gauge to that of the original bonnet; and
If any bonnet reinforcing braces are cut or modified, the design of the modified bonnet must be of equal strength to the original bonnet and any sharp edges created must be suitably treated.
Actually my GV bonnet weights 7.9 kg which is the same as the OEM. The vent in the GV bonnet could not be cut into the OEM as reinforcing braces would have to be cut. Also the vent would allow something like this to be fabricated (from http://www.miataturbo.net/race-prep-75/serious-cooling-ducts-hood-vents-think-gt40-now-pics-57909/#post728899) and keep the engine bay cooler as well as have more control over the air going into the car. I have a lot more space now that the air con and power steering have been removed.
Bruce I may take your idea and see if an OEM bonnet can have a GV like vent added that complies with the law and takes advantage of the ducting that I'm thinking of making.

If I needed it then would put these babies in.
Metal naca vents reversed, ala Fezza F40, Paint em body color and you would not notice them and they dont need to cut any supports. Perfect position for low press point
I know you have and NA but comments?

Aussie Stig I have 1 NACA duct that I was going to use to duct onto the ITB intake. I think I can make/buy 1 or 2 ducts that I can use for the radiator air. However I would rather cut up another bonnet than experiment on my OEM or Fibreglass ones

Which takes me back to my first comment, you could use a hail damaged one finstance.
Good luck, your car is one of the best, you do not need the hassle of cop infringements.

Re: Transport Approved Fiberglass Bonnet
The circle of modifications is now complete, we finished where we started
Yep I'm going to be on the look out for a spare NA bonnet. However the plan will be to put on the fibreglass one when it goes on the track. No potential police issues as it will be on a trailer and I will remove the plates
Once I do the duct work and establish that it works I'll speak to Danny about having it professionally fabricated. I want to do enough to prove the concept. I think I have enough skills to do a so so fabrication job out of sheet metal, rivets and rivnuts. Plus it will keep me out of my partners way whilst she unpacks the house

I thought naca vents were designed to work with air flowing a specific way over them...I.e. a reversed one will not work?
