Front Fender Spacing

Postby angusis2fast4u » Mon Mar 31, 2014 9:11 pm

Okay guys, i have googled lots and cannot find anything on this topic yet i know it is not uncommon to be done.

I am talking about Spacing the front fenders like this:
Image

Charlie did it on MXBo55 and i have seen it around on other mx5's, but how is it done, is just a piece of measured up flat bar with holes the right distance apart or do they change the mounting point for the guard,

Why do i need to know? running 15x8.25 +0 wrapped in 205/50/15, i need the extra distance from the tyre

Buy the enki big ends and put the 205 on them. Save the xxrs for flares or sell them :P

I thought Charlie's guards were only spaced at the bottom, so I'm not much help.

Or mx5 plus. They probably had the guards off at some stage.

Have seen simple washers used on other forums.

Could you link? It doesn't seem as if washers are applicable on this car it seems as if the mounting points have to be changed/moved

would need longer bolts (maybe 1/2" longer) then the current for the 2 door side bolts with spacers/washers thick enough to be your required offset for the panel.

The 2 bolt holes on the bottom of the quarter panel rear of the wheel, the 4 upper holes along the bonnet line and the bolt hole at the top corner of the door mount area will need to be widened/extended in toward the centre of the car to allow the offset spacing position you want.

All you'd need to do is remove the wheel, and wheel arch lining plastic. If you're careful, you'd be able to re-drill or patiently file out out the spacing with the panel. Otherwise, would need to remove the front bar to get to the front most bolt of the quarter panel (might not need to but would be a huge amount easier)

(I've recently removed my quarter panels for respraying and and other additions underneath in the past two weeks.)
