Goodwin for example may sell on an ex works basis so getting the goods anyway beyond their gate is the buyers reap .If "your" forwarder had a local branch or can arrange pick up it gets easier but all these things take time to set up. Many sellers will not make special arrangements for buyers esp privateers as opposed to business' placing large orders. Consolidating shipments also requires a co who is used to doing these things and does it legally and reliably. When the goods arrive there are further complications. If someone has a mate in the area it might then be fairly easy to buy the goods and then ship direct but a lot of mucking around.
I am very fortunate to be in a position to consolidate items I order onto shipments for the Company I work for.
We do a lot of importing, so it's not overly difficult for me to arrange this.
