Cheers Im so happy with it. Now to stay consistent with the 1:07's if not better. I got 3 1:07's in the fourth session.
What is your best time on the sprint circuit? Im still chasing after Trackphotos PB on the sprint circuit before he had the semi slicks, think Ross done a 1:05 or 1:06 so I still want to drop another second

Re: QR Street Sprints - Tips or hints for a new guy
Hey guys well first time out and had a ball. Great day and got to meet a fellow mx5 nut and forum member "speed freak".
I ran constantly in the high 1:12's and low 1:13's with best time being 1:12.2, so pretty happy with my first outing. I did however meet the gravel trap on turn one, yes magpie you warned be but that last run of the day led to a little "ambitious" entry and ultimately me running out of skill haha..
anyway car is fine and ran well all day. Car did get rather hot at one stage but it eventually evened out. Will have to look at a better set of tires and better suspension.
First thing will be this cooling issuse.
Anyway thanks again guys for tips leading up to this, was a great day out.
Also to those who want to go out next QR sprint day, they charge $95 for a lap timer (deposit were you get 60ish back or keep it and loose deposit) this fee is to my knowledge nowhere on the website (or at least i didn't see it) Speed freak gave me a heads up which is nice, so thought i would pass it on to anyone that did not know.
Ben

1:06.7 for me, next time out I'll be aiming for a low 1:05 or better. You have to make sure you're taking the right line through the dipper, it seems like 90% of the time people take the complete opposite of the right line. Slow In Fast Out is critical there, otherwise you'll be 10kmh down by the time you hit the crossover.

Re: QR Street Sprints - Tips or hints for a new guy
1:08 clubman and 1:05 sprint last outing. Looking forward to next time and hopefully get turn 1 sorted out. When the car was a 1.6 I was faster through turn 1, not sure what my problem is now! I would say lack of experience is the main factor.
That sounds like understeer, my issue was oversteer and it is a combination of turning in too early and setup. I have taken out the rake between front/back and may add some rear toe in and reduce front camber next alignment. Anyway I'm glad you had fun!

Oh no magpie it was very much over steer (ended back to front in gravel). I touched ripple-strip on inside of turn one (possibly the grass too on the end of the strip) which caused unbalance in the car leading to the rear to step out, there was absolutely no chance of recovery (cooler tires) so rear over stepped the nose and ended up going backwards into gravel.
Either way was a great day out, already looking forward to the 7th of June.

Re: QR Street Sprints - Tips or hints for a new guy
hey guys, well to add progress to this thread I have been looking around for a good set of 14'' tyres to go on the stock daisies. I am looking for something that will be an OK track tyre and serve as a good road tyre. I thought I would ask the question in here to limit the flaming i get haha.
So i have done a thorough search and looked around and have kind reached a point were i am looking at the Bridgestone RE001, Kumho Ku31 or the Federal 595. Now these are by noo means the best tyre for the 14" BUT they are reasonably priced ($120 fitted a pop) and all have appeared in my search as a reasonable tyre. Have talked to some other forum members too who like the Bridgestones, but all use the bigger stuff as the choices for 14 inch tyres are fairly limiting.
So i guess does anyone have and input on these choices or have any other tyres i may have forgotten.
Cheers, Ben

Re: QR Street Sprints - Tips or hints for a new guy
Davekmoore i am on the same page as you but i hope i have got cooling sorted: New water pump, New hoses (mx5 mania kit), New electric fans x2 (with override on/off switch in cab) plus looking for a bigger ally radiator to go in. (any opinions on this? PWR do one also mx5 mania have one too that i am looking at)
Think that should do the trick i hope, otherwise i have no idea what to do haha.
Tyres are next.
Early June is next sprint meet so have time to get stuff installed plus have a good look at tyres before buying.

On the cooling issue is your undertray installed? Override not really needed as all you need to do is switch on the air con or at a pinch turn the heater on to demist. If you are at speed and overheating there is the potential that there is not enough air going through the radiator. A thicker core radiator will not help if there is no air flow through it, in fact a thicker core will give more air resistance.

Yer magpie i have my under-tray installed, i be it a little banged up from 23 years but joints to body were it should. I also have a radiator cowel cover on the top of the radiator.
Thinking on that line, the AC condenser panel is in front of the radiator, this may be what is obstructing the airflow through radiator/engine-bay.

Coolant reroute, more ducting to stop air escaping at the side of the rad, tyres, in that order.
Going for tyres first will make you go faster which will put more heat in the motor and will eventually result in no motor. Others here will tell you how I know this. It's too painful for me to relate.
If you've already noticed the temp gauge going where it shouldn't you have already overheated.
