yes? having a discussion "I want to be an mx5" "cars aren't fun"
everybody saying how fun there cars are and I'm not experiencing that in my sr20 Nissan pulsar SSS.
So I consider an mx5. mmm friend say maybe if you spend $80k or $50k and it only going to be
the first two weeks.
What do you think? Is the whole cars are fun a false par? sp?

Re: cars aren't fun.
"fun" is a subjective term.
Get in a MX5 and make your own judgement on how it drives for YOUR purposes compared to a N14 Pulsar.
Your definition of fun may vary from your friends or us forum users. A N14 SR20 Pulsar is different to a MX5 in a number of ways.
IMO, you don't need to spend 50-80K to have a car that is 'fun' to drive.

In fact you could only spend 5-8K and have plenty of fun.

Re: cars aren't fun.
Depends on your definition of 'fun', I guess.
I'm not a horsepower guy - I've dríven a current 911 and a Ferrari 458 on the track and that sort of horsepower on the road is ridiculous and unusable. Handling and feel are where I get 'fun' from a car. I get that from The Jaffa, with the bonus of being a convertible, and I can explore the car's behaviour through Mt Nebo without putting my license under threat. Also, when it rains...well, it's light and rear drive, so, you know.
I was also looking at naturally aspirated W10 and early W20 MR2s (good luck finding an unmolested one of those!), so that gives you an idea of my thoughts on cars. Mind you, I get a few laughs driving my lightly modified '97 Mirage, so I might not be a great one to get advice from.
Guess it's time for you to think about what you actually like about driving, and what fits that.

Re: cars aren't fun.

50-80k N14 Pulsar from back in the late 90s....
I bet it goes pretty good in a straight line, but the whole driving experience is not solely based on 'straight line' performance....
When it comes to the twisties, despite its power output, a stock MX5 will more than likely still out perform it.
What's more fun for you? Driving in a straight line or being one with the car, feeling feedback and having performance through the curves while your car is revving it's nuts off?
If I wanted to win in straight-line drags, I would get a motorbike. If I wanted a complete driving experience, I would get a road legal go-kart, such as a MX5 with some tasteful mods.

Regardless of good handling performance and reasonable power to weight for a little fun, top down, good tunes, pretty girl in the passenger seat = fun for me.

Personally I hate and am completely uninspired by road driving so as a whole, for me...No...Cars are not fun.

Cars aren't fun?
Guess that depends on who you are.
Me,
CARS ARE FUN!
My Vintage Stingray, Bounces and jolts you down the road. But power and then some and sticks to the corners like glue.
(Yes it has a few upgrades).
My MX-5. Not so much grunt. But still free revving and sticks to the corners like glue.
But this is fun for me. Hearing the tires squeal as they start to slide sideways is all "Part of the Fun".
Shifting quickly through the gears in the straight, only to drop back down hard and fast for the next corner.
This is Fun!
But maybe not for everyone.
Pulling the entire rear end out of my Vette to rebuild, replace and just freshen up, "Just because".
This is fun!
But then, I'm a "Car Guy".
Guess that depends on who you are.
