Congrats Phil that's an awesome time, should be very proud as it's incredibly hard to break that 1:10 barrier in a road car.... my car had everything in the rulebook except cam shafts and I still only ever cracked it less than 10 times ....

Might be a while before I'm back :P
Would love to get back to Wakefield again though. I'm sure my times will have dropped due to lack of regular practice there, but I'd be interested to see my times after getting back in to it given the extra mods that have happened since I've been over west.

Gee, it’s been over a year since I’ve posted anything in the Garage section.

My latest modification has refreshed the car with more zip.

Last week, with fantastic and much appreciated help from Reggie & Guy, my NC had a 4.1 diff fitted to drive it out of corners a little quicker.

I managed to pick up a second hand crown wheel and pinion out of an automatic NC. Guy gave me his old diff which was sent off with the CW & P to a diff specialist to have it setup properly. Then with the help of Reggie & Guy, we pulled out the old diff and fitted the new one. My old diff goes back into Guy’s “rotatable pool” of spares.

Even with Reggie’s hoist, there’s a fair bit of work in the swap as you need to disconnect the rear suspension to remove the drive shafts. It took around four hours, not counting a trip to pick up another hub carrier as the bushes in my old one were broken.

It’s going to take a little time to get used to the higher revs in each gear. 6th now is around 350rpm more than the old 3.6 diff was at the same speed and at the moment I find myself wanting to change up to the imaginary 7th gear.

All in all, this is a worthwhile modification for the NC. By finding an auto diff and getting the CW & P set into your old housing, the cost is about half that of buying a complete 4.1 second hand diff.

It worked well at the Clubs skid pan day propelling the NC to a win against all comers in the “non-competitive” slalom knock out event at the end of the day.

Off topic, but anyway, ... a special thanks to Phil for allowing my wife to drive his car in the last couple of hours at the motorkhana/skid-pan day after our own NC failed-to-proceed with a clutch disengagement problem.

Here’s a link to two laps around Eastern Creek GP Circuit (or SMSP Gardner Circuit) during Round 5 of the State Supersprint Series on 10th August.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dqpM3BTZVs

I missed the gear change coming onto the main straight, going from 3rd to 6th which didn’t help the times.

To give an idea of slowest speed per corner, etc here’s a short list taken from RaceChrono;
Top speed main straight - 190kph
T1 - 168kph
T2 - 75kph
T4 & T5 - 113kph
Top speed back straight - 140kph
T6 - 86kph
T8 - 70kph
T9 98kph
T10 - 95kph

Minimum T2 : 88
Entry T3 : 134
Max between T4 & T5 : 103
Bottom of hill : 140
Fish hook : 67
Back straight : 144

The phone holder is an Ebay special. About $14 delivered. :D

It slips into the CD slot. You tighten a wing nut on the underside that locks the unit into the slot, though it did come out on my first run as I didn't tighten it too much as I was hesitant about doing damage to the CD slot. Next time out it was really tight and worked fine.

Nice and smooth Phil. Your car looks to be very well set up. See you Sunday week.

Too easy, cheers for that! Too hard to find a phone mount that fit the NC thanks to the crappy little air con vents :frown:
