What white rims are out there?

Postby Keki » Fri Mar 14, 2014 2:28 pm

Hey guys,
I just bought my NA 90' a week ago and I'm looking to change my rims to white rims.
I'm looking for something with a bit of dish like these

There are literally thousands of white wheels out there to fit MX5's.

The easiest way is to find a style that you like, then look up the manufacturer and see if they offer white as an option.
If you prefer secondhand, note your requirements (width X to X, offset between X and Y, price under $XXX) and post in the Want to buy section.

The common choices for dishy wheels are Rota, Axis, or XXR. These are the cheaper options, each of them have a few models they offer in white.
Then there's Rays/OZ/Watanabe/etc that are more expensive, but offer a wider range of sizes/offsets/colours.

The wheels on the red NA pictured are likely Diamond Racing steel wheels, they're popular in the US because they're dirt cheap.

Your best option I think is to narrow down to what model wheel you want, then budget to have it painted/powercoated.

Thanks for helping me out.

I was thinking of getting white rota's but they didn't to have enough dish for my liking. I'll check out the other manufacturers that you've listed :)

Wheels on the red NA are revolution wheels

I've got 3 sets of white rims. Cleaning can be an issue. Just make sure the design is simple and open so you can work in and around all the parts of the wheel easily and that it has a good quality high gloss finish. If they're hard to clean or if the finish holds onto brake dust then you'll soon hate them.

The eBay rims posted above are "BBS Style" rims so be aware that they're knock-offs and will probably be quite heavy.

When deciding between rims you like, you want a light 14-15" rim on an NA.

Just pick what you think looks good.

Unless it's made of lead the weight won't be an issue on the street.

Remember, in most other markets the MX5 came standard with steel wheels.
