Road Rage from a Lancer

Postby stilletto_rebel » Thu Mar 13, 2014 8:59 pm

I encountered a bit of road rage Wednesday morning whilst on my way to work.

I had been following a Mitsubish Lancer (Rego PAS128) on the freeway for about ten minutes but decided to pass him as he kept slowing to 90ish before speeding up again and it was very irritating. (Please keep in mind that whilst I was behind him I hadn't flashed my lights or approached within three car lengths of him or acted in an aggressive manner in any way).

However, he took exception to me passing him and accelerated up behind me and tailgated me for approximately a kilometre. He was so close I couldn't see his headlights in my mirror. He would have been inches off my rear bumper. Whilst he tailgated me I was travelling at 100kph and did not slow down or speed up in case I provoked him further.

Then, the following took place as per the video.

Is it worth going to the police with this? I have the full video to back up my account of things if anyone wants to view it.

agree with Jeo - nothing to see. You would really need strong grounds to make a complaint and generally people need to be caught in the act - eg hoons get away with creating havoc and annoyance despite people complaining. You can bet that the other driver would say they were driving along quietly until a looney in an MX5 cut them off etc etc- but the Police will do nothing. If you had been attacked with a witness seeing it etc then it takes on a different light-just an opinion.

The most you can hope for is the police give him a fine for not indicating when changing lanes.

IF the police can be bothered to act.

Problem is there's so many gay jokes about the MX-5 that people get the wrong idea, looks like he was desperate to get rear ended.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I would put in a complaint. People who lose control of themselves this easily will have done it before and will do it again. There may already be complaints against this person and your statement will be more evidence for the police to use against them.

If I were the police, I would only look into this footage and obviously I cannot see any road rage behaviour in here. You said he was tailgating you but you cannot prove that. Also the footage did not show the actually speed of your car, that mean you can't actually prove that he was speeding when he was overtaking you. And last, you cannot prove that he was on purpose when he braked in front of you, he could said that he was trying to avoid something, e.g bird, dog, or even rubbish.

BUT...
It was clearly shown that guy did not use indicator when he was changing line. You could try to bring it to the police and talk about this. But since you didn't get the face of the driver. The driver could say that was someone else.

Yeah, you could submit a report, let someone who's obviously aggressive and dangerous have your name and address. Not sure you'll get the outcome you expected.

Slightly off topic but do you mind sharing what model dash cam you're using stiletto? Looks like a good one.

Yeah, that's what I thought as well; I can only prove what happened in front of me and nothing else. Which is why I posed the question of whether it was worth taking to the police.
