what wheel to fit 225/50/15 in an nb gaurd
just curious as to whether i will fit that big a tyre within the gaurds on a 15x8 +25 wheel?
i know they race these tyres but generally on a 6ul or similar with a higher offset
the car hasn't got rolled gaurds and
can anyone help with this?
thanks

Have that size tyre(Yoko AO50) fitted to 6ULs 15X8 +25. They would NOT go under my NA without a roll, but DID fit straight under my son's SE.
WAT WOULD WE DO IF WE WERE NOT AFRAID

With standard suspension height they will probably fit, but if the car is lowered I'd say you have no chance.
I have a lowered NB with 205/50/15 on 15x8 +25 rims and they required the guards to be rolled. I presume a 225/50/15 would be worse, as it would have more width and rolling diameter.

hmm, just how low is your car?? I also have a lowered NB8A with 15x8 +25 and have used 205/50 R888s, NT01s & DZ03s (which are all wide 205s) and none of them rubbed the (unmodified) guards ???

Just roll the guards ffs
That's a lot of tyre, unnecessary unless pushing a lot more than stock power.

Race car low :-)
To be fair I suppose, they were only rubbing through turns 3 and 4 at Wakefield.

225/50/15 is the wrong size for NB.
Just use an online wheel calculator to work out the right size.

I've run 225/50R15s on 15x7 +40 rims at a range of ride heights from stockish to race. They fit fine, no rolling needed.
And for all the knockers who say they're too big for the car/rims - they're not, you haven't tried it, the car is fast.

thats good to know they fit on a 7 inch rim.
yeah i have looked over the faster mx5's and most of them seem to be running this size tyre. even if they are still underpowered (like mine). I think the only difference with most of them is that i still have 3.6 gears
now to buy some rota's lol
thanks for your 2c peeps

Doesn't a 225 on a 7in rim feel a bit baggy?

I can't say that I've noticed it. Recommended rim width range for 225 is 6-8", so 7" is right in the middle. I really don't understand why this forum is so terrified of tyre movement.
It's interesting competing in the CAMS NSW Supersprints where rim sizes are limited to +1" in diameter and width from original. There are some brutally modified old Datto 1600s and things like that running on pretty small rims. Not sure what size they were originally but the 1600s did come with 155R13 tyres new. The basic idea seems to be to stuff the biggest sized tyre you can find on them. So some of these cars look like they're running tractor tyres. It's great to watch some of them blast past you on a straight then work the car around the corner with the steering sawing and tyres rolling in and out. It may not look pretty but there's bags of grip and speed in that sort of setup.

Widest tire you can fit ( guards or rules) on the widest recommend rim is what the books I have read said is IDEAL.
Obviously rules and circumstances can limit from ideal, but it seems wide tires is still the aim of the game at the end of the day.

For track work, I'd remove the word recommended. As an example. the recommended width for 205 is 5.5"-7.5" whereas they are definitely quicker on an 8".
'Recommended' widths are for limiting exposure to legal action not quickest lap times.

If the Dattos have bags of grip and speed whilst sawing at the wheel through corners, then they'd be quicker again if they didn't need to. You can't remain absolutely right on the limit if you are constantly swinging the wheel back and forth, upsetting the balance of the car each time you adjust the wheels direction.
