Kitchen gear is a lot less likely to get blocked with rust than paper. If your going to use paper use wet and dry paper and dab in water frequently to keep it clear.

ended up using a bit of scotchbrite (scuffing pad) to remove most of it. Still very hard to get in there without removing alot of things, its just visible. Should be ok for the inspection I hope...

Stick a camera in there and take a photo. You can often see the numbers easier in the photo when you zoom in.
