Where is my 1994 NA8 Engine number?

Postby booki89 » Fri Feb 28, 2014 5:33 pm

With my vicroads inspection slowly drawing near, I need to know where the engine number is!
Mechanic's couldn't find it...

From the general reading, its at the back of the engine, under the plenum? Honestly, just confused. The manual with the car is no help either!

Can you actually read it with the engine in the car ?

Can anybody shed some light so I can get my little baby on the road :)

Top of the block near the oil dip stick. You may need a strong light and something to make the letters and numbers show clearly.

It is on the left (passenger) side at the rear. Opposite to the B6 engines.

Think I have found it!

Just near the dipstick as JBT said - but its extremeley hard to read. Looks like its covered in some spot rust? Tried to get a rag in there to clean it.... any tip's? Don't want to damage the number. Then I think i'd be in big trouble...

Don't want to go to vicroads, then they knock me back because they cannot "read" it -_-

Toldya it was hard to see. Try some WD40 to clean the area and then rub some chalk on the number. I think it starts with "BP".

Took off the heatshield for the extractors. Gave it a clean as best as I could. Could just make it out. Put the shield back on, and now its hard go read again. FML.

Didn't try the chalk technique though, thinking I might have to go buy some chalk!

Anybody else have some advice?

Try a kitchen scourer such as the green pads, or the steel wool as a step up.

Tried the old wd40 on finger. Only for me so far, might grab some fine sandpaper and see how i go. Fresh outta the kitchen scrubbing gear
