NB8A Soft top Care - fading

Postby RedNB2NV » Wed Feb 26, 2014 9:22 am

Hi Im new to the MX5 addiction - always wanted one & finally got it!

Ive been looking up how to care for the soft top - but not sure what material the NB8A top is.

I belive its a Vinyl (as the roof has never been changed)... but if someone could confirm that would be good.

Also - what is the best product to restore fading & protect - been reading alot about the 303 protectant on the forums... can anyone recommend anything eaiser to use?

yes, it's vinyl.

As for the protectant, you can't really get easier to use than 303.

Spray it on, wipe it around, done.

303 does a good job of protecting the top from further damage, but I find it doesn't really do well at darkening the top.
My top isn't too faded, so I can't really help with that part.

You can't beat kiwi polish I think it's called instant shine. It brings it up black but is a bit shiny although dulls a bit after a few years (I've had mine on for a few years now and it washes up a nice black still).

Is use Carpro Perl on my roof and find it much better than 303 Aerospace. It's goes on better and lasts longer on the top, you can also dilute it for use on things like tyres and interior/exterior plastics, etc.

wash the car, don't put any car wash high pressure wax spray on the roof, spray megulars convertible top cleaner & wipe it in with a foam applicator, once it's dry, plenty of 303 sprayed on and wiped in with another foam applicator. it'll come up better than new.

Finally got around to using the 303 Kit over the weekend & I have to say this stuff is awesome!

The top came out looking like new :D

Thx for all the advise - it was just spray & wipe!

Yep, 303 is Awesome. Just remember to re-apply frequently. I haven't quite been disciplined enough and my top now has a small tear.

If the top has faded, then there are not much you can do, I have tried most of the soft top cindition or whatever that said keep the top like new. From cheap to expensive, nothing help with the fading. I even spray black paint on top, at the end is same. What I did is just get a mohair soft top, looks better and last longer. All those polish and condition stuff is for new soft top.
