Re: An interesting thread from Z3 forum
Getting off the thread a bit but this week I drove a mates Porsche Boxster 2003 around the Tidbinbbilla road - I will never buy a new NC when these things are around for less money! I have a mate with a Z3 so have to now con him for a ride. Incidentally my Porsche man took the NA for a run and he did end up with a grin on his face!

Just make sure there are no issues with it, i've heard from Boxter owners with massive rebuild costs.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: An interesting thread from Z3 forum
Every now and then I have a think about what else I might like to buy.
The Boxster or Cayman is an obvious 'step up' but once you take any perceived 'pose value' out of the equation it just doesn't make any sense on any level.
If you were wealthy then you'd have a 911 or F Type just for the hell of it, but if you had to save hard to do it you'd have to question exactly what you were getting for your money.

A Boxster/Cayman would be lovely. Leaving the obvious cost elements out of it, though, having something with such high limits doesn't line up with my idea of the 'fun car' - one thing I'm loving with the MX-5 is it's fun at and around the speed limit. Had a drive up Nebo and Mt Glorious and was in the ball park of the speed limit and felt I was stretching the car a little, whereas with a Boxster/Cayman to get closer to the edge of the envelope would mean higher speeds, and you'd be drawing your fun from the purity of the inputs.

I;ve had people mention "ooh, you've got an expensive sports car" and you point out "no, it costs about half of what your 18month old Mazda 3 cost) they refuse to believe it.
The day I picked up my NA ~8 years ago I drove it straight to a mates place on campus at ANU. As we're sitting out the front on some benches, about 10 metres away from the car, you see a group of guys walk past as one of them says "ohh flower off that's a student's car". I quite enjoyed that.
Yes it's a students car and no, it didn't cost as much as your Getz.

You're right Okibi. This one has had the dreaded engine bearing failure already so now it should be okay with the modification. And I agree the MX is far more fun to drive and at least there is a bonnet to lift with an engine under it!
