NB8A - List of Globes

Postby Vat » Fri Feb 07, 2014 10:54 pm

Alas my recent acquisition of The Jaffa (http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=61624) did not include the driver's manual.

Whilst a PDF copy would be handy, I was specifically chasing a complete list of the globes used in the NB8A, both interior (the overhead festoon, but more the in-dash lighting) as well as the tail lights (specifically the reversing lights). Was thinking of LED options for these - have fitted them before to instrumentation lighting and it gave a nice white, modern effect, and I wouldn't mind something brighter for reversing lights. I had some spare wedge LEDs which I put into the front parkers and they look great, giving a good full white effect when on by themselves, and also 'whitening' the headlight when the headlight itself is one.

Contact Allmaz, or any wrekcer with MX5s.

You should be able to buy a manual for it, I doubt they'll cost that much.

HKS is right- simple and it has lot of other info. No idea why people are besotted with led's for cars for retro fits. The car is specifically designed for incandescent bulbs and they all work pretty much trouble free. The bulholders and electrical ratings are designed around the industry standards for bulbs which are readily available throughout the country- if you blow a tailight bulb you can buy a replacement almost anywhere. Leds can actually play hell with turn sigs because they are often not electrically compatible. Life expectancy is also probably irrelevant as many bulbs are never replaced and aftermarket hybrid bulbs are not necessarily well made. People also do not seem to grasp or understand that bulbs are not designed to be too bright- simple example- rear lights are only 5W but they are readily visible but a rear red fog lamp is bright and bloody annoying in normal conditions. A parker bulb is only 5w for front as well.

Had no intention of replacing tail/brake lights or the turn signals (aware there are legal implications on that front, completely agree on the annoying rear fog light thing, always Hyundai Accents of all things). Mostly the interior I was interested in.
