best soft top replacement and upholstery shop- Melbourne

Postby marky210 » Sun Feb 02, 2014 8:05 pm

Unfortunately i had my pride and joy broken into on the weekend

They cut a massive hole in my softtop and have cut both seats, as well as a big cut in my steering wheel. They also kicked the corner of my rear bar cracking all the paint.

Id like to get peoples opinions on the BEST repairers for : Soft top replacement
Seat & steering wheel re-covering ( Been told Blackmans are the best if
around still? )

Repair/paint rear bar

Im only after the Best there is in Melbourne.

Any input would be greatly appreciated :D

Sorry to hear about the scumbags. Hopefully Karma will take effect.

Maybe Prestige Tops for the roof?

Which area of Melbourne was your car vandalized in?

Ouch. Nasty buggars.

Yes, Blackmans are still in business.

They did a great repair job on an original vinyl soft-top. It was almost impossible to detect once they had finished.

If its covered by Insurance then check with the insurer. You can probably buy standard seat upholstery i.e. covers from Mazda and virtually any auto trimmer can do the job. I replaced a cover myself. Some of the "best" trimmers are the most expensive but it does mean thats good value. A soft top is replaced if its badly damaged so a trimmer really only needs to be a fitter in that instance. Paint the rear of the car- insurance??- plenty of good guys- e.g. MX5 factory are competent. Ask the painters who they use for trimming etc. Sorry to hear of your car being damaged.

Unless you intend to change the materials used for the interior (colour, or leather) it's more cost effective to buy good secondhand seats and a steering wheel than to have them re-trimmed.
The roof is usually purchased pre-made and simply installed on the old frame.

My partner's car was painted by Euroimage in Moorabbin, and the finish was done well. Can't comment on the longevity since the car is currently stripped back as part of a restoration she's doing.
The bonus is that Euroimage and Blackmans aren't far from each other, so it saves running around.

but yes, I would suggest an insurance job.
The excess will probably be a LOT cheaper than any single repair needed, let alone all 3.

by the way, if you go to Blackmans I can very much recommend Fat Bob's burgers for lunch. They're located across the road.
