Not sure if this is quite the right forum section, so if it isn't can someone people point me to the correct place?
I'm curious as to the fuel tank capacity of a 92 (or 91 on the vin plate bit?) NA, my fuel tank reads empty at about 400-450km (Although the needle is bloody useless anywhere between that and full), but it only fills to around 35L, however after checking the fuel tank capacity, it's supposedly either 45-48 litres. But then i see people on the net talking about getting a 400km range out of their tank
Not that keen to run the tank dry as i've heard that's not the best idea for a fuel injected engine, so i'm curious as to how far you guys get on your tanks, and if i've really had another 1/4 of a tank this whole time.
cheers
Fuel tank capacity?

Re: Fuel tank capacity?
About 35 litres to a fill in mine also with a na8. I'd say the extra 10 liters are indeed there.

Re: Fuel tank capacity?
I regularly run mine right down, largest fill I've had was 45 litres.
But, in saying that, I have an NB (note sure if tank size is the same)
The norm for me is about 400-450km, which works out at about 10l/100km
don't really do too many highway trips in it these days, so can't comment there.

At which part of the gauge do you refer to when you say empty - the "bar" or the letter "E"? If it's the bar then it make sense you have fuel remaining , as your needle should reach the lower corner of the letter E.
I filled up 43L yesterday and the gauge was on the tip of "E" so I had approx. 4L left.
Not a fan of the mx5 fuel gauge, I much prefer electrical ones (Read:NOT Digital!) so when you power ON the gauge flicks up.

Re: Fuel tank capacity?
I've only ever run it to the last bar, so not the "Get some fuel now" one but the actual end of the scale. Normally get 400-450ks and fill up 30-35L. The fuel guage is pretty useless as far as how far through a tank you are, the first 100km it doesn't move, by 300km i'm at half way, then at 400km its empty.
anyway thanks for your help guys, nice to know i have a little bit more range.

Re: Fuel tank capacity?
Actually, for a 100% accurate measure.
Read the owner's manual, I think tank capacity is listed in the "capacities and specifications" area.

Re: Fuel tank capacity?
you are mixing up a lot of things. 93 looks the tank cap- and its really a very bad idea to run tanks down to the not sure point. Then work out with the oft repeated method of filling the tank recording the odo KMs - drive vehicle - refill record KMs and work out l/100KM. You then have an idea of what fuel consumption is for your vehicle. By doing this and resetting the odo you can have a pretty good idea of how much fuel you have or how many Ks is a red flag and time to refill. But the issue is fix the fuel gauge- it needs to work properly.

1. Set trip meter to 0.0 after filling
2. Next fill record litres, say, 36.9
3. Note kilometres travelled, say 489
4. Divide 36.9 by 4.89 [not 489] and that's your L/100km
Just filled NB today, that tank 7.57L/100
Filled NA last week, that tank 7.55L/100km
Filled GTS86 MT after trip back from down south and that was 5.75L/100km
I think I drove Patrick Brampston mad telling him the L/100km that the 86 returned!!

Re: Fuel tank capacity?
I've never been one to keep track of my km/l because I think it sucks the fun out of driving ..
But .. when I bought the SE I wanted to track my usage so I could see what distances I could cross on the Nullarbor without having to stop for fuel.
Tank never went that low because I ended up wanting to stop every few hours to stretch my legs and stop myself falling asleep.
13.8 km/l was my best but that was on the Nullarbor and at dawn so less aircon.
average was 11.6 km/l.
Recently I picked up a newer people mover to i've started to track the usage on that, I downloaded a free app called "Road Trip LE", it's pretty good for tracking your km/l but i'm sure i'll loose interest quickly.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
