whatever way you look at it cars are very cheap. Well less than $30 gets a very good car. The facts are that the new car market is in the ascent- steep ascent with prices so cheap that people just shrug and don't bother with a used vehicle.I don't think most have any idea of what has happened to the new car market- in summary 10 yrs ago about 500K cars today about 1.1Mio- and the industry are staggered at the take up. You can buy new small cars like Mazda2 and Yaris for well under $20K - it's buying heaven but used cars are doing it tough. The Mazda 3 is probably about the same size as an EH Holden i.e. a family car and performs better all around .

10 yrs ago there were 910,000 cars sold in Australia. A bumper year at the time.
The growth market at the moment is SUVs and dual cab utes.

I should have been more specific- PMV - at the end of 2014 the PMV was 589985. The big increases have been dríven by lower costs , more finance, low finance costs and a plethora of models to choose from.I agree with Rjastra that the SUV market and the 4WD ute town cab market have been the big growth areas.
