Re: DanZig's NA6
Out with old chinacharger and in with a spare T25 I had from my Silvia:
Had to do a few things to make it fit like drill out the exhaust manifold flange, clock the housing and CHRA and also take a little bit off the compressor outlet flange. Hopefully if I can find a snout to borrow while mine's still being delivered I'll have it on the road very shortly.

Car's idling quite nicely, just waiting on a bung I can weld to put on my IAT sensor then I'll be test driving. I've since put clamps on the BOV (temp until buy a new one) and a filter. Will also need a filter on that breather.
ATM my plans will be to:
- Load up some target AFR's to suit the turbo
- Go for the drive with the gate wired open to ensure there's no leaks and work on the base map.
- Chuck in my RX8 injectors and get it to a running state.
- Connect the wastegate and tune for some boost and hope things don't explode.
The big aim is to use this as one of my wedding cars in March so I'll be taking it pretty easy to ensure it's alive. Once that's sorted I will be going ahead with FMIC install, bigger exhaust (started collecting parts), new clutch, a decent LSD and a date with the track!

She lives!
Took her round the block a few times with no leaks and the gate wired open and it's running well.
Having an issue with my wideband though, it's all over the shop. Hopefully a recal will sort it out so I can actually hit some boost otherwise I'll have to order another sensor.

Very cool but please please intercool!
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: DanZig's NA6
Fixed o2 with another recal and chucked a 5psi actuator on and its running well. Laptop went flat so couldn't get one for too long but very happy with results. I'llget a video on weekend when its light. Really need to spend some time on the weekend with cold idle as its pretty ordinary when cold.
Intercooler is on the urgent cards along with exhuast. Just happy its back on the road!

Re: DanZig's NA6
Life's been busy with a wedding almost upon me so sadly I've been a little slow with this one but since it's going to be one of my wedding cars I have had to get it in a good running order and of course, going a bit better.
First on the cards was modifying the begi dump / front which I had to weld a new flange onto and rotate the second half a little to allow better clearance for the O2 sensor. I also build up a new 2.5" exhaust running a cat and one straight through muffler. It's not too loud but certainly has a decent note and burbles away nicely. As you can tell I'm not a welder or anything by trade but for the purpose I'm very happy with the outcome:
After the exhaust I had to put some kms on and work on the tune a little. Putting the exhaust on has pretty much changed the car completely. This made more difference than the turbo itself (with stock exhaust) and sitting on 5psi with a halfwit's tune it goes along very nicely. I cannot wait until I do some events this year, it should be a pretty competitive car once it's finished.
Here's another shot from Mt Bold reservoir:
Saw what looked to be a very nice red SE on the way out who gave wave so hi if you're a board user.
Once this wedding's sorted I should hopefully start getting more done, do some track days and get some video's up.

Re: DanZig's NA6
Wedding and MX went really well. As I said, I was going to use it as one of my wedding cars along with my Evo6 and friends 911SC and 959. The car was certainly one of the better behaved of the day (including myself). We all headed off for a cruiser in the Adelaide hills before a photo stop at Mt Bold then back to Clarendon for our wedding.

Re: DanZig's NA6
Unfortunately after the wedding I didn't manage to get the car completely sorted for Mt Alma 2014. I was pretty paranoid about the stock diff which just open wheels and even in stock form the generic clutch I cheaped out on was struggling with aggressive launches. This left me having to run Alma in my Evo which was still fantastic, managed a PB of 50.155 which I'm happy with given the car's an essentially stock shopping trolley used by my wife during the week.
My best run (warning: Non-MX5)

Now, back the MX5 issues. First thing on my card was to do something I've been meaning to do since it was stock, fit an LSD. I decided to use a Torsen 4.1 from an NB and it was a relatively straight forward affair with only minor casualties.
Casualty 1:
Casualty 2:
Great success:
Reverse the order then go for a sedate drive in your local industrial area:
The LSD has really started to change the car, a little more initial understeer but I can now bring the rear end around with a bit of power. U-turns are now easier but also presents the urge to turn back around a couple of times before deciding where to actually go. Makes for great excitement despite the ability to soil underwear.
The only real negative to the lsd is that it's highlighted moreso my need for a new clutch which I no doubt expected as soon as I turboed the car. Time to start doing some more research to get the car ready for Collingrove as currently a hard drop will just fry the clutch hardcore. The increased pace has also made it clear that the stock replacement shocks I'm running (KYB Excel G's) are really struggling particularly in the hills where it is pretty bumpy. Time to start looking into something decent or some coilovers.

Re: DanZig's NA6
A little present in the mail today from 949racing. I'll never forgive myself for installing the cheapest clutch possible so hopefully this thing can take a bit more abuse.
Since the MX is slipping bad I decided to take the Evo to Mallala for a practice (it's been too long), despite a failing boost solenoid and being down on power (felt like quite a lot) I managed a PB of 1:24.9.

Re: DanZig's NA6
Did the clutch a while back, was pretty simple given I had a mates hoist to use:
Now I'm on holidays I managed to get a fair bit done. Made up a FMIC finally (this made a massive difference), installed RX8 injectors and raised boost to 10PSI and this thing flies now! Actually pretty scary pushing it, feels like the Evo's speed but a whole lot scarier and less safe. I was expecting to go down the a blaze of glory but after 2 hours of driving and letting a mate drive I'm over the moon with the power.
I'm umming and arring about a track day in it this week, I'm just a bit worried about heat as it's still stock rad and no coolant reroute. I'll likely hold off and order some more goodies to make sure she stays in one piece.

Re: DanZig's NA6
Been a long time since I've done any events in this car so I decided to give it a bit of a test at Collingrove at one of their come and try days. Weather was pretty good with only a slightly damp session during lunch which dried back out quickly and provided good conditions. The car mechanically ran faultless however, my over 3 year old pilot sports have gone very hard and essentially provide no grip front or rear. They were actually so bad I locked up through some cones returning on the service road so I took it quite easy after that. Despite it I managed to get a new PB in this car of 37.82 which I think I can vastly improve upon given some good semi's and do something about the roly poly suspension. The shopping list continues.
The slight improvement in power, an LSD and good clutch made for much more interesting warmups:
Here's my last run of the day and my fastest:
Can see my braking trouble towards the end.
The only other real gripe I have with the car is my helmet hits the roof so I'll be ditching the stock rail shortly and making something up in an aim to get lower. As low as possible would be great as my heads quite a bit higher than the rollbar

Re: DanZig's NA6
Very impressive times there. I was there on Sunday and only managed a best of 38.68 in the SE. The track was waaayyyy to cold for me to get any temp into my semi's. Had no grip all day. You seem to get alot better drive then me out of the 1st gear right hander hair pin. I either spin them up or go sideways. Ill also try second through "the wall" next time. Do you plean to do wintercup 3 on Aug 3rd?
EDIT: Do you know your first sector times? Also, sounded like Marque giving you launching tips at the start haha. Hes very quick up there in his MX.

Re: DanZig's NA6
Thanks. Track temp can make a big difference there, as soon as it's cold it's like ice. Never used semi's though so I'm trying to get some on the car asap but it might be a bit tight getting it by wintercup 3. I wouldn't bother with the old pilots again, I had to be very careful not turning in too fast otherwise it'd just understeer haha.
I can't recall exactly my first sector, I think it was high in the 8's or it might of been 9's haha. Mark's very quick indeed! As soon as I've got some fresh tread I'll enter as soon as I can.
