Yeah on the rear I will have some wider outer bands made for the 3 piece wheels so they will end up around 12 to 13"

The Turbo crew used to get 200 - 220 rwkw out of the NB platform but the whole car starts to self destruct,
you will need half shafts axles, wheel bearings, diff, gearbox etc .... I run 15x8 wheels on racecar and had to roll guards
and they still hit, 18 inch wheels will not actually work on track loads even if you flare guards etc ...
Rear suspension travel is an issue as well.

Your car is likely to be call it 975 kg max and 300 rwkw would be 3.25 Kw per kilowatt

Look at some production benchmarks and you will get an idea of what is needed engineering wise.

Lotus Exige S with weight of 930 kg / 155 rwkw = 6 kg per kw

458 Italia 1500 kg / 336 rwkw = 4.4 Kg (THIS IS BIG FUN tracked one in italy)

The McLaren F1 1140 kg / 376 rwkw = 3.0 (only marginally better than yours.)

You are basically building a Sports sedan from an unsuitable base sports car,
it will cost you way more to bring everything up to spec than you want to spend.

there are two already going in NSW and it's a shitload less trouble than being a Pioneer in an MX5.

The MX5 body will end up being just a vessel for this project. I am intending to put the body onto a spaceframe chassis similar to a sports sedan. The rear suspension will basically be Nissan S15 uprights and arms. The subframe will be replaced by a tube frame. Gktech make some alloy uprights to replace the stock ones and moly arms. I am already using a skyline diff and axles that will handle my project power output.

I expect this car to be quite a handful. I wanted to build this car in the spirit of Australian specials form the 1950s. A car put together from a whole lot of different cars and ingenuity. I really like the fabrication side of a project like this. I intend for this to be a learning car, I hope that I can build more cars after this. Maybe the next one will be far more sensible.

The Ariel Atom has a very similar ratio wheelbase to track.

Sounds like a good build. I do not own a MX5 (anymore) but I am fitting the same engine into a MR2 (popular conversion of late). The engine is NA to avoid the long list of pain you will find with a boosted engine but it is far from a stock engine with stock power.
Higher compression, custom camshafts, motorsport spec heads and other tweeks. Power is expected to be well over 400hp. If you are interested in something like this, PM for some help.
If you are keen on boosting, supercharging is a great option. There are confirmed reports of 500hp on 98 octane and 600+ on E85.

Friend had a sw20 with the aurion v6. Had dramas with the gearbox but I think it was the constant swapping of ends that tipped the balance into selling it.

He may have been using the smaller of the two gearboxes. The turbo gearbox is far more effective and reliable. Also need a torque brace for the top of the engine. Would also recommend this for your application.
As for swapping ends, they can be a little tricky but a good set up can solve that problem.
