Tires for 16" on NA
I was wondering what tires and what sizes people are running on a 16" wheels? Preferably on NA's
I'm running 205/40 and have been fine for the past year and a half. I have federal 595's on the front and Falken rt615k's on the rear, was federal's all round until I got a puncture in the middle of no where. I prefer the rt615's but apparently I bought the last two the supplier had and they are no longer making that tire in that size.
I've gone around to a few of the local tire places and the best tire that seems to be available is the falken 912 or the kuhmo something, can't remember which ones and honestly wasn't interested.
This is why I'm interested to know what other size tires people are running and how they are on the car? rubbing? speedo? etc?
I should probably add that the wheels my tires are on are a 16x8 et20. I really like my wheels and would rather not change them, especially after one tire place was trying to convince me that green 17" wheels would look "awesome" on my car and that "it grows on you"...

Just for road driving? Is it a daily driver? Do you track the car at all?

Daily Driver, but the occasional mountain run, no track yet, and when I do, I'll be happy with 15" wheels

The standard NA/NB wheel diameter is 23" so you should consider 195/45/16 tyres (=>22.9") for 16x8 rims (if you can find them in that size).
Kumho 31s are probably the best bang-for-buck DD tyre around.
Did the tyre guy also reckon you should lower it and add spinners too?

I run 205/45/16 KU31's on 16x7 enkeis on my NA6.
All works fine for daily duties.

Another vote for the awesome KU31s.
195s would be a fair stretch on 8 inch wheels, especially at a 45 profile. They would fit, but a stretch all the same.

Re: Tires for 16" on NA
No way would I fit a 195 on a 8" wide wheel, I would rather source out 215/40's from the US, roll my guards and have a better matching tire to the standard size. I don't like stretch fit and if I could I would run a big chunky tire sticking out of the wheel with raised white lettering. Old school
As for speedo's being out, Mazdaspeed dash cluster is almost spot on, it's only off by pretty much the percentage that the 205/40/16's are off from the original. Which is why speedo makes a difference for me.
The only thing that kept me away from a 205/45, was that according to all the tire manufacturers, a 205/45 is a stretch fit on a 8" wide but a 205/40 is fine???
Anyways looks like I may have to take everyones recommendation and try the Kuhmo's
Cheers

Re: Tires for 16" on NA
No stretch. A 45 is going to be a slightly chunkier sidewall, which will also be slightly more comfortable / less harsh as it's taller. Although not by a lot so probably wouldn't notice.
205 is the width, which is 8", so fits just fine.

i dont think you'll fit 23 inch wheels on a MX5.Lokiel wrote:The standard NA/NB wheel diameter is 23" so you should consider 195/45/16 tyres (=>22.9") for 16x8 rims (if you can find them in that size).
