Soft top

Postby beemerjack » Sat Jan 04, 2014 8:55 am

Hi new to the forum and MX5's
I've searched and admittedly this topic has been extensively covered hence my confusion and I didn't find anything recent.
I need to get a new soft top for NB series 1 and have it installed. From what I've read I'm thinking
Prestige Soft Tops Victoria or a Robbins import . I'm still undecided about cloth vs Vinyl .
I live on the Sunshine Coast QLD and looking for an installer in the South East so would appreciate any recommendations. Is a Motor trimmer a good way to go ?
( Prestige apparently have an installer near me but I haven't been able to contact them)

Basically I'm open to all and any advise on manufacturer and installers( no flamming please) .

Beemerjack ( yeah I'll change that)

I've recently put a prestige budget top on mine, pretty happy with it, especially for the price.
Have a go doing it yourself with a mate maybe, not all that hard with some help from youtube.

Why not talk to Prestige for a recommendation. The original vinyl tops last very well depending of course on exposure and maintenance. You might consider how long you are keeping the car- vinyl may last 15 years again depending on service etc. Vinyl is standard and that may also be a factor for some. Is vinyl tougher than canvas or fabric- I can guess but maybe car trimmers can be more specific. There is still a lot of vinyl used in tonneaus etc. The DIY thing comes down to your now priorities and time.
