When you used the vinyl dye on the area surrounding the air con controls did you have to take the unit out? I'm assuming so. Do you paint it on with a brush?

I pulled it out to re-colour it.

Gently pry off the vertical side fascia covers with a credit card or small screwdriver to reveal the screws you need to remove to pull off the fascia.
You'll also need to pull off the dial and slider knobs - the push-buttons can be left attached (I think, was a while ago that I did it so only pull them off if necessary).

You'll need to mask off the dial faces too before re-colouring.

See http://s490.photobucket.com/user/1okie1/media/MX5%20Head%20Unit%20Upgrade/03_HeaterFasciaSpraycoat1.jpg.html?sort=3&o=10 and http://s490.photobucket.com/user/1okie1/media/MX5%20Head%20Unit%20Upgrade/03_HeaterFasciaSpraycoat3.jpg.html?sort=3&o=9 for photos and comments.

Black Vinyl dye is great for re-colouring plastic/vinyl trim, just remember to use multiple thin coats and that the first coat WILL look like crap, making you second guess your decisionto do it in the first case - ignore that and keep going, it'll look great.

Pulling out the whole unit is too much work, there's a lot of connections back there, including mechanical ones.

You've also added the chrome rings to the HVAC unit as well haven't you?

Adds a nice touch of class!

Yup to all 3 lines above.

The NB's interior always felt "too black" to me and the SE's faux-chrome plastic trim on the vents and speedo+tacho just looked cheap. The chrome trim really lifts the interior and gives the car a classic-retro feel.

Some of the earlier special edition NBs came with real chrome rims on the speedo+tacho - this was just another case where Mazda "cheaped-out" on the SE/MSM and only put in a half-arsed effort to create it (the lack of a boost gauge was the biggest offender).

Hey Tristan, I've got a pioneer h/u that i was using dash command with, through my iphone. While it is very cool the refresh rate is a bit slow. Meaning that for water temp it's great but for anything that you need a quick refresh its not so good. Say for rpm or boost if you go PLX.
Ive now gone for Plx sensor modules along with torque using my samsung note 3, the refresh rate for torque is still a bit slow but i also have a Plx DM100 in my gauge cluster. Ive hooked up the boost, afr and about to connect oil pressure as well. I don't have it going through the h/u Atm because i need the samsung cable which is on the way. As soon as i get it I'll put sine photos up.

I will add that it is cool on the stereo it didn't work quite as well as i hoped hence why i got the DM100.

Ahhhhhhh sh***********t, don't tell me that :frown: I wanted my cockpit to be all futuristic looking with stuff on the monitor. In honesty though, thanks for the heads up so I didn't get my hopes up too high. I guess I'll get this going and then worry about it if it doesn't work afterwards. At least I'll have data logging, so I can investigate if I think there's something wrong with the car.

Hi Guys

Unfortunately with a recently failed relationship and the impending need to buy out a house the time might have come to move on from my baby.

She's currently got 74,000km's approx on her and is looking pretty good. I should be able to have some new photos up by the weekend at which point if I've got no interest I'll put it onto carsales.

I'm looking for $16,000 ono, however I am realistic and I do want a quick sale.

I'll be making a note in the for sale section.

Any questions I'm all ears.
