NMX516 is not correct when it comes to qld.
They want you to de register it etc etc etc.
Nev, you'll just have to wait! however you're right about the current one, needs some work before it'll sell
Boyracer, are you sure about that? Because I thought I can't register it here before it is cancelled in qld?

Re: Help! Buying car from qld and bringing into nsw ??
In qld you have 14 days to transfer the rego, so as NMX516 said pays your moneys drive car home using the queensland rego and as soon as you are in NSW get the blue/pink slip and your green slip and hand in qld plates at RTA.
I have done this both ways with cars I have purchased and owned, with the MX I kept the NSW rego until it expired and then transferred to qld, but I was able to use my parents address as the garaging address. I have also gone the other way and registered a qld car in NSW with my queensland address as the car was kept in NSW.
For the least amount of hassles do what NMX516 said. You have up to 14 days to transfer the rego, the seller will keep his part of the transfer paperwork in case you get a fine. My S14 incurred toll fees after I sold it so all I did was send a certified copy of the transfer papers to the toll operator and the problem went away, so there is no issues that the qld owner should be worried about. With one month's rego left the refund will be only a few dollars and not worth the time and hassle to get it.

Yeah, this is what I've done when I've bought from NSW & WA to register in Vic in the last couple of years.

Shouldn't be a problem & RTA will register in your name as long as you have a detailed receipt clearly identifying: the vehicle (QLD rego #; VIN; & engine #); the seller (full name; address; driver licence # & state); & the buyer (full name; address; licence # & state); & stating that you have paid in full signed by the current owner. Of course, RTA will require proof of your identity (driver licence) when you attend RTA to complete the loop.

I didn't last time I bought a car from QLD, but then most states will tell you the same thing. Here in Victoria you have to sell a car with a rwc otherwise you have to deregister it, however it quite common for cars to not be sold with a rwc and still have rego. Up to you to decide how you do it but it is heaps easier to leave the plates on and use it in NSW until you can get the rego transferred over. You won't have any issues and many people on this forum have done the same.

Good luck!
Don't forget to ask the seller to show you a copy of the failed 1st Safety Cert inspection to prove their claim that the only issue is the minor windscreen repair. That paperwork will detail everything that needs to be done for the car to pass on the 2nd inspection, and so what you will need to do for a NSW equivalent.

Just run it on 98, a decent run back to Sydney will clean it out nicely.

Hi Emily.
Do not forget to do a revs check at the time of pickup not before or after do it while you are there if possible.
I hope you enjoy your new red mx5 ??

Re: Help! Buying car from qld and bringing into nsw ??
Just done one, not good news.
Not stolen or written off.
However.
Security interest because there is still money owing on the loan.
Response from seller:
"Yes of course. As a doctor with Queensland health I financed through medfin. It still has some money owing. I have spoken to them. After I sell it, I'll immediately pay them out.
But there's nothing to do with mortgage.
It's very common to sell cars under finance. The loan is my responsibility, and has nothing to do with my mortgage. After sale, I still need pay the balance of the loan.
So have a think if we still meet tomorrow."
He seems like a decent guy, but I could get stuck with a car with money owing, if he doesn't pay it?

Hey Emily, safest way is usually to make a bank cheque payable to the sellers finance company. If it is more than he owes he can then chase them for the remainder

Re: Help! Buying car from qld and bringing into nsw ??
You won't get stuck with a car with money owing on it if he doesn't pay the finance off - you'll lose the car to the finance company and you won't get any of your money back. No wonder he was trying to convince you that you need to deregister the car to take it back to NSW! He must have thought that would solve his problem, because he should be able to afford the $60-$70 for a Safety Cert. When did he plan to tell you that it had money owing on it??!!
Anyway, so before you collect the car get written proof from his finance co that he has either removed the car as security, or confirming the amount that he owes and have a cheque made to his finance co and send it directly to the finance co. Collect the car when they confirm receipt of payment. If he owes more than the sale price, don't buy the car until he has paid the amount out or removed the car as security, again, get written proof from the finance co that this has happened.
Or you could just trust the seller who only has your best interests at heart....
