GoMiata emailing me asking for more money....

Postby Sal.kalandos » Tue Dec 24, 2013 11:11 am

I purchased coilovers, a spoiler, and a few other things, total came to over $1000usd. in Check out shipping came to $130usd, which I thought was fair. I purchased and finalized it. now I just recieve an email today from goMiata saying they require another $90 for shipping because apparently its $220. Why not have the total shipping charges in first place? Is this well known and how they do business or just a one off? hmmmmmm

GoMiata don't have the best reputation - TheGoogleMachine will tell you that.

I've had one good and one bad experience with regard to timely delivery and wont use them again since they're impossible to contact if they can't source a part they've sold you, you just have to wait until it turns up.

Your experience doesn't surprise me at all.

US$130 for S&H coilovers and a spoiler to Australia is ridiculously cheap, they probably charged you assuming you were in "The Lower 48". US$220 sound much more reasonable to Australia.

thanks for your reply lokiel. I think I decided to go with them because of the amount of parts they had available and proffesional look on their website, but looks can be deceiving lol.

The checkout does ask where I'm located, you put your location in and it's suppose to calculate shipping cost. It must have stuffed up, that's what probably happened.

I suspect it was the size of the spoiler that caused the errrr..... 'miscalculation' as larger items, particularly when shipped overseas, are charged base on volume rather than weight.....

Hmmm ... I think most on here would have had a similar issue at some time with them ...

Shame really, as they have some great product at reasonably good pricing.

But same as Lokiel, I won't go there again ...

They're the middle man for most companies they stock.

They are renowned for doing what you're experiencing. Many on Clubroadster boycott them for that reason. They know EXACTLY that they're postage estimation system is inaccurate, but refuse to amend it to be more accurate with the postage services they use (based on size & weight requirements).

I have always emailed them beforehand to double check on their shipping as I always thought their online postage quotes were too optimistic.

If you're not happy, ask for a refund and go somewhere else or use an US mail forwarder in the hope they offer more competitive postage rates. Another option is to approach directly the company they resell to see what they charge.

I forgot to add, don't forget to add 10-15% on top as well for you order considering it is >$1000 for GST + customs fees.....so that $220 postage may blow out to be a bit more once you add 15% to the cost of the order on top.
