Re: THE 2014 MX-5 CUP
I bought a WRX to race in the new WRX series, as there was no MX5 race class for me to enter. Would have been much easier for me to keep the MX5..

Re: THE 2014 MX-5 CUP
Might have saved you a few gear boxes!
I'm a member of the WASCC that own and run Barbagallo Raceway, i'm also a member of several clubs that USE Barbagallo.
WASCC can afford to operate because of the income generated by encouraging and supporting other car clubs to use the facility, so I know how it all works ;)
I'm guessing Winton and Wakefield are similar?

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I thought MX5 Club NSW had surplus funds ?
what's the point of making people join another Club to "encourage participation"
in something they already wanted to participate in.
I like Wakie as much as the next person but a 5 race series at one venue is not such
an exciting drawcard that you need to impose barriers to participate.
Also why the Penalty on a Sub 1:05 car and what is the penalty anyway, if it's all
class based why have a penalty at all ?

More than likely to stop cheque book racers, building 100k plus cars and beating and lapping everyone. Trying to keep it fair I guess.
Any way, good on you guys, instead of been a bunch of whinny bottoms, getting out there and making it happen.
My hats off to you and wish you all the best and a massive turn out!

Re: THE 2014 MX-5 CUP
Should make everyone run on semi slicks, we have had a few problems with cars hitting each other due to the cars on slicks being able to brake better and corner faster, would save money and even things out a bit, and cause less agro on the track.
Might need to check if you are allowed to use the MX5 Cup name, I would be pretty sure the guys in USA would own that.

I wouldn't mind running on semis - would most likely negate the need for a sub- 1:05 rule.
Not sure the MX5 Cup would have an issue with a little series in NSW using the name - besides, a US trademark doesn't mean much here unless it is registered in Australia too

The SCCA Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup is not trademarked. "MAZDA MX-5 MIATA" and "MX-5" are US trademarks registered by Mazda. Similarly "MAZDA MX-5" is an Australian trademark registered by Mazda. Our Club is authorised by Mazda to use the term "MX-5" in our activities and I do not expect there to be any issue with us using "MX-5 Cup".

Re: THE 2014 MX-5 CUP
Thanks for the input everybody, much appreciated. We do want to hear your thoughts, to help us develop a series that is inclusive and productive.
I want to stress: this series aims to create an environment that will encourage and support new entrants to the sport. This is why we have put a lower lap time threshold – it is not a penalty. We want to minimize the speed difference of the quicker cars and the slower ones.
For the same reason, we want to direct support – and funds – back to the grassroots of MX-5 motorsport, and for many this starts with their MX-5 club.
Lou – good idea re the semis, in light of the points above, I will put it on the drawing board.
Cheers
Craig.

Re: THE 2014 MX-5 CUP
Gee Dave you can't have looked very hard. Adam tried to get mx5 racing off the ground at winton and like most of the Victorian members you failed to show up. There is also super tt, state racing, prod sports and the enduros run at Wakefield and winton you could've done in your car if you actually log booked it and made it adhere somewhat to the general requirements for cars and drivers and took the time to obtain something more than an l2s permit. Adam is quite right when he says they are only interested in super sprints. I think the time based thing and running on semis (although perhaps soft compounds should be banned as well) is a good idea. Don't hold your breath waiting for the Victorian club members to come racing cos they're all talk...cheers owen

Re: THE 2014 MX-5 CUP
I put 5 rounds on for MX5's at Winton in 2013, when I posted in the Vic MX5 facebook page I got flamed for posting a "non club event" in the 5 rounds at Winton, often I was the only entry there were a few hear and there that showed up, but I doubt they were even MX5 Vic club members. I personally own 3 MX5's and have sold an additional 2 in Victoria to try and get a racing category going. I don't have to do it, I am doing it because I love MX5's. Just another point for you to consider, there are many racing categories that I compete in, Super TT, Pulsar Challenge, Modern Sports Cars, MX5's, Sports Sedans, IPRA, if I had to join a car club for everyone of the series I compete in, I would have to sell one of my cars each year.

Unless your cars are worth $500, or you anticipate the club fees to be $3,000, this is a gross overstatement.
Even at the lowest level, club level kart racing, for you to compete in a club championship it is more common than not that you are required to be a club member. I think if it leads to a more organised and pro-active approach to the way things go on than it is definitely a great thing!

.. and the clubs aren't there to make a profit, attend enough events and you get your money back anyway.
