Here are some stats on the cars behaviour (as measured by VBOX Performance Tools)
0-100 takes 7.10 secs and 115.69m
110-35 takes 4.49 secs and 77.6m

The front has a massive squirm under heavy braking, however the car still needs to be corner balanced since the build so I will do some more heavy braking once this is done. The rear rose by roughly 35mm in the brake above, however the front sensor was offline (another issue) so no idea on the front. I did lift the front end by 10mm the other day (sick of the scraping) and this could have resulted in the unbalanced feeling of the car.

During this time of year is not the best time to be testing a car, even within the speed limits there are just way too many police around.

With regard to the squirming under brakes, if you have played with the front end set up that could explain it.

Wait until you have corner weighted the car again and reset your ride heights. It could be a matter of adjusting the bum to stop it coming up in the air, or adjusting the front to control the pitch and dive under brakes, that may also then affect the general behavior of the car on the road.

Next we can look at is the brake balance between front and rear, maybe get the rears to do a little more work, I can't remember if you have adjustable brake bias or not. After that, well you can play with pads and what to use front and rear.

And I can't let it go, remove the brake booster, it won't change what's happening with the braking at the moment, but it will give you more room, and without the vacuum assistance the pedal effort is higher, but you do get a lot more feel at the lock up point, and it is easier to release the small amount of pressure you need to than on a boosted system.

I can vouch for that 0-100 time. I popped over to Marks place yesterday to try some wheels etc. While I was there I had to have a good look at his NA again now with the newly fitted engine. I was lucky enough to be taken around the block in it sitting in the passenger seat, then I was even more lucky to be offered a drive!!! It was one of the best driving experiences Iv had and Im still smiling about it. The acceleration is instant and brutal as soon as you floor it your pushed back in the seat and your off, and that INDUCTION ROAR!!! Its addictive put it that way lol its well worth all the time and research, its definitely paid off. Well done to Automotive Plus too they built one hell of an engine to go in one hell of a car. Great fun, thanks again Mark.

Thanks MattR for the advice, with the exception of the booster delete I have taken notes. There is no adjustable bias however this is on the agenda as I still believe that the rears are doing less work than they are capable of.

I now have the brake pressure valve installed (front) so I can now monitor the pressure when braking. Plan is to find out when it looks up and then get used to that point. Then when looking at the data from a track session I can see if I was braking at the cars limit (tyre dependent).

Speed Freak I'm glad you enjoyed the drive, now you have some ideas to use on your car, not just new wheels :)

I'm a pretty bloody crap driver, this is just my 2 cents.

My car moved around a lot under brakes, I did try adjusting the brake with a little more to the rear, worked a little. It's a light car, if you are going to jump on the brakes, it will and should move around. If it doesn't you are not driving hard enough.
A mx5 is an mx5, there is only so much you can change, I.M.O. it's not a F1 car that you can make 100 different changes, you are very limited to the set dynamics of the car.
Once you have the basic set up, you are only talking 100th of seconds, with all the other parts. I.E. corner weighting and the rest of that BS.

If I was you, I would set the car up with a basic set up, then take the car to the track and beat the snot out of it and don't change a bloody thing for a doz or so track days. I.E. stop f#%king with the car.

BTW I really like the car. Sorry if I sounded like a c#&t! Also I hated the booster delete!

That is the plan now, I have a few minor issues to sort out, however there are no more fundamental changes left to do. After a few more hard braking sessions the squirm seems to be less than the first experience and that could be down to getting used to it. A corner balance will still be done in the next week or so.

Another brake test today and it took 58.05 m to go from 110 to 30 kmh (Racelogic GPS) this time with the brake sensor and front ride height sensors working.

The red mm numbers are the front height and the green mm are the rear height. These heights are relative and you look for changes from at rest. The black line is the front brake pressure and I did not lock. Plan is to do more brake testing and see at what pressure the brakes lock.

Holly sh*t. I knew you had put some serious gear on but seeing it all in one lists is crazy!

Can't wait to have a good look over it.

Unfortunately I don't need to do that as I have kept a file on all the costs, I just keep it hidden from my other half...

Well the car has been corner weighted (drivers weight in the car, tyres at 31 psi, half tank fuel)

The new engine has seen the car shed 26.5 kg!

LF 285.5 RF 314.5
LR 260.0 RR 298.0
49.6% cross weight.

Heights (mm) at the pinch welds
LF 125 RF 117
LR 131 RR 125

Splitter height of the ground is 93mm.

I have a feeling that the front will scrape again as the RF Has been lowered 14mm and the LF 3 mm, plus there is now 6mm rake (rear to front) whereas before there was -4mm (rear to front). However I did adjust the front higher before the track day with no regard for corner weights, it was a stab in the dark. Hopefully this may help with the squirm under heavy braking.

Tomorrow's job is to take the preload out of the sway bars and tighten everything up. Plus I'm going to weight the stock (no PS) NA6 I have.

For info the starting numbers were
LF 294.0 RF 305.5
LR 247.5 RR 310.5
47.8% cross weight.

Heights (mm) at the pinch welds
LF 128 RF 131
LR 124 RR 127

1157kg is pretty heavy :P

With the squirming under braking, have you looked at your shock settings? Might be getting too much weight transfer to the front.
Cheers,
plohl
