What is increased and what turbo heat? Increased combustion heat from increased efficiency.?

Oil and water cooled turbos I would assume drive up the temps?

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Dann, sorry no turbo in my car
Again the water/oil temp issue could be more calibration than actual. The temp of the air coming off the track (before it goes through the radiator) was around 45 deg so it was a hot day (I put a air temp sensor in front of the radiator). There was no pinging of the engine and it performed very well.
Next time I will take a non-contact thermometer and check a few spots on the engine, but again I think calibration is more the issue.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Well a very scary moment late yesterday after an email from Jason, however he worked his magic (again) and end result 185 RWHP at 8,200 (to be confirmed). Danny has posted a video on MX5 Plus Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10202812122043628
Am I happy, you all have no idea! It is more than expected. I pick it up at 1400 tomorrow so will have more info, I will just keep watching Danny's video.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
The scary moment was Jason was checking a small oil leak at the oil pressure sensor. As a T piece was used so both the stock and innovate sensors worked it fatigued possibly due to vibration and weight. It was the same T piece from the old engine.
When Jason was tightening it snapped! An oh sh*t moment! To make it more complicated the innovate sensor was not the same thread as the block, again oh sh*t. End result the stock sensor is no more and the innovate sensor is used exclusive. Plus Jason got it all fixed as well as on the dyno and managed a great result!
Now in the stock dash I have no temp guage, no oil pressure guage and no tacho

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
A good solution is to remote mount the sensors on the guard or similar and run a braided line to them. Takes all the vibration / fatigue away.
Probably only applicable to pressure sensors though.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
So when are you getting a race dash? haha
Pretty good result, I am sure everyone is pretty happy with it. Interested to see what sort of times it can put down. What's the rev limit now?

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Plohl when I first started thinking if this build the racepak dash and smartwire were considered, however in the end they're were considered nice to haves but not critical. Hindsight now says otherwise
The dash may happen but not until the rest of the car is complete. The issue will be getting idiot lights and indicators etc however if I get defected it will become a track only and plans will change.
GT auto/MX5 Plus will decide the rev limit, however Jason mentioned a soft cut at 7,800 and hard cut at 8,200. The engine stops making power at 8,200 and there are already ideas how to improve the build such as larger cams and a turbo version, however I will always have the pleasure of having the prototype and participating in its development.
Now all I have to do is get MX5 Plus to ensure that if they make anymore of these engines (natural aspirated) that they make less power than mine
Now it will be getting seat time to improve lap times. 2014 should be a fun year!

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Well it is home! Spent the morning chatting at MX5 Plus over the birth of a new 'child'.
After going from Aspley, Deception Bay, Coolangatta then Coomera all I can say is it is no longer the MX5 that I first owned. Steering is more heavy, but has a much better feel, car is hot on the inside thans to no air con, crawling in traffic at 20 kmh in second gear is painfull, radio can not be heard because of the engine induction and the roof scoop.
However, what a blast driving it. The noise as it comes on song, the push bac in the seat and the sheer joy of having instant throttle response is worth it! The police presence on the drive today made sure I kept within the speed limits as well as ensuring that I did nothing to attract any attention. That did not stop slowing down to 80 before the 110 section, going back a few gears and flooring it
110 can up way too fast
It is still not finished, but for all intents and purposes there is no major work to be done so now it is sit back and just drive
But, there always is a but. From the graph there is a torque dip at about 5,500 that needs to be investigated. I have had a chat with the Jenvey supplier (Competition Systems) and it could be the ITB's however due to space smaller trumpets can not be used so a shorter bodied ITB could be the solution. Again, this is for 2014.
Thanks to all who have read this build as well as the many who have discussed and or made suggestions over this build, especially Jason at MX5 Plus. In closing, it has been worth every penny and the time it has taken.
My focus is now on the aero and data logging so there is still more to come, another journey has begun. Aero and slicks now that will be fun! Sorry MattR there will be no brake booster delete in 2014 or ever, I will never let you be 100% right.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
I also had a dip, but lower I think. It's almost impossible not to have a dip with out having super long trumpets from what I have read.
Shorter bodies would be super expensive (for the benefit) and may only shift the dip with out reducing it. May also mean power loss under the curve.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
The trumpets on my Hachi Roku are about a foot long, tuned to make power around 7000rpm off the top of my head.
The length is tip of trumpet to the back of the valve.
If your total length was half, you would be tuned to make power at 14,000 rpm. If it's a third you are tuned for 21,000rpm..

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Correct Dann however it is a space issue and without a booster delete it will always be a compromise on trumpet length. Maybe in 2014 the trumpet/body length can be tested. Jenvey do make a 20mm trumpet.
Also Dann Jenvey agree with your works as they say 'A guide figure, from the face of the trumpet to the centre of the valve head is 350mm for a 9,000 RPM engine. Other RPM are proportional i.e. for 18,000 RPM the figure is approximately 175mm.' What I need to do is get a measurement to the centre of the valve head and see what I have.

See you really do want to do the booster delete....... And the brakes will feel better too.
Have you looked at a remote booster? With the Chugger, at the moment I plan on running no booster, but if I do have to run one, not likely as no one else will be driving it, it would be remote mounted in the boot.
You'll come round to deleting the booster one day.....

It was good to see the car is all you want from it and you should have plenty of fun learning to drive it on the track.
The S14 was looking good and the cage should be finished in the break. I also got all the suspension bits sorted and the scope has blown out a bit from just getting the new arms to all new arms, rose jointed both ends, alloy uprights and the cradle reinforced and bushes installed ready to be bolted to the shell.
