MX5 Plus have just informed me that they have Defi installed in their shop race car so you could call them to discuss Defi gauges.

These still look too far away and too far out of the line of sight for a car that's used on the track.

Is it somehow possible to put gauges on top of the dash binnacle without upsetting Mr Plod?

Ok so here is my display,
Kiwi Wifi showing data through dashcommand on my iphone, which is connected to the pioneer headunit I have which has appradio mode which can show dashcommand on it.
The display is nice and big and clear, but very low in the field of view. With the screen angled up its easy to read but during the day with the roof down is so glairy its almost impossible to read.

This is the field of view from eye level. As you can see its far too low in the field of view to watch any fast moving gauges.
Things like water temp, air temp etc is fine but timing and AFR just too fast and takes your eyes way to far off the road for too long.

Obviously not everyone has the headunit to display this, so if you were to just use your phone this is where you would put it, in the eye line but highly visible to police etc (touching phone whilst driving is a no no remember ;) )

The other place would be with an ipad/tablet mounted to the two centre air vents. Up high and 10inch of hugeness!!

In the end this display is nice, it works and you can get also some basic info on power and 1/4 mile times etc etc but fast moving gauges like Boost gauge and AFR should be their own separate gauge in the cluster (like my boost gauge) or on the pillar/air vents etc.

Yeah its definitely got the wow factor! And being able to design your own display is pretty cool too.
As you can see from the flash in the first photo the Pioneer screen is a matte screen but the glare is still pretty bad, so on a sunny day with the roof down the screen is pretty hard to see, so im experimenting with different colours to make it more visible.

Night time looks stunning!!

Like my PLX DM100 gauge, it looks awesome at night but during the day with the roof down, only white on black is actually visible for most conditions.
For visibility, my TomTom is still more practical as a GPS than any phone (I have a HTC One at the moment which has one of the best outside view ing screens and it's still not as viewable as my 4year old TomTom).

Yeah im going to experiment with anti-glare/reflective screen protectors to try to make the whole thing more viewable during the day. But im not holding my breath...
