Peeling flaky paint.

Hey guys jusr wondering how you deal with peeling paint I have a 1990 white na6 which is peeling like crazy u absolutely hate it so what sort of step s are there to fix it or will I have to do a full re spray ?? Anyway what do you think thanks brods

How much is needed haha, its not stupid to do a full respray but are there other options?

Once it peels it needs painting.

At best, you might be able to polish/wetsand the flaking sections off so they're less noticable. But the problem then is that the paint underneath is then exposed and will just fade/peel faster.

you MIGHT be able to get away with smoothing the edges of the peeled sections and then spraying the patch with clearcoat, but I'd imagine it would look pretty obvious, and won't really stop the paint continuing to peel, just slow it down.

I'd be putting some money aside for a repaint. (or saving to buy a compressor and gun to have a go yourself)

Cheapest way is to roller paint. Alternatively I think you will find "appliance white" a pretty close match - should be able to get that from Bunnings in aerosol cans.

Ok thank s, vinyl wrapping could be cool but wouldn't it just rip off the paint haha

Normally it won't but in your case the paint probably will be ripped off when it's removed.
But by the sounds of it the paint is coming off without any help, so nothing to lose.

Definitely look at going back to bare metal as the paint on the early white cars was prone to flaking and falling off. Mazda, to their credit was assisting owners to repaint long after warranty(and so they should have).

A Vic Club member had his car redone with them bearing half the cost when it was about ten years old!! Some will remember Ron's car that then had the short crank issue, repaired and sold on, eventually bought by a mate who then sold it on to Lochie Storie.

Its no drama. It should not be necessary to go back to bare metal- that's a lot of work. Go and get some quotes and see what suits your budget. You cannot just fix flaking paint- the paint is past is service life. Paints have greatly improved since the early 90's. The only way to paint a car is to do it properly - a cheap and nasty job will detract from the car aesthetically and financially. An expert like The MX5 factory - if you are in Vic- can give a quote and is well set up- and there are others who can do the same. Suggest you ask questions about the process and what product they use.

Interested in carbon fibre wrap? If you are in WA, I can help you with it.

Also I would say carbon fibre wrap by yourself will be the cheapest way to keep the car looks good and it can last for very long time.

But of cause if you can afford why not repaint the whole car?
