Project is finished. First joined the two pieces, then filed it down. Then built it back up in places to make the transition smoother then filed it down again. In painting I did about 4 coats, sanding it down in between, then two final coats. Really happy with how it has turned out; you really have to look carefully to see the transition.

So I decided to pull the dash out to tick a few things off of my to do list. Was really suprised at how easy it was to pull dash out and put it back in; low lights were removing speedo cable, and getting the cubby to fit (took me like 2hrs alone due to all the modifying)

Things done included:
-re-wire a few connections which were soldered and taped up, and some which had vampire connectors, to properly solder and heatshrink them
-add electrical connectors to shift light, and mirror light
-polish cluster screen
-replace all the foam in the air con and clean all the vents
-put foam insulation on the copper pipes in an attempt to lower cabin temps
-put heat reflective tape on a/c ducting to lower cabin temps
-put 1.5DIN cubby in
-re-wire overheat light to constant 12v source
-lube HVAC controls to slide easier
-replace dead dash bulb
-repair broken clips on cluster hood

Have you noticed any increase in AC performance? Any before/after vent measurements?

First impression is that it has made a decent difference. No quantifiable data to give you, but it even my girlfriend noticed the difference

Awesome thread man! Thanks for sharing. I believe i've been at more than a few of the CC track days that you've been at over the years. I'll have to say hello if you ever do another one haha.

Would you mind sharing your racechrono data? I've picked up an NB8B recently, and just got it out to its first track day. I'd love to see where i could improve compared to other MX5s!

So I got some new wheels. From a person on the forum here, they are 14x6.5 +14.5 with RE001 tyres. I shouldn't be amazed, but I really am gobsmacked by how much of a difference good tyres make!! When I got my meshies, I went for some of the cheapest tyres, and recently they have been very sketchy as they have gotten nearer to the indicators. Considering I got about 50,000kms out of them and they cost under $500 I think that is pretty good though

. I will be keeping the meshies, and hopefully getting them refurbed at some point in the future. Shitty phone pics:

When I purchased them the seller said one wheel had a slow leak and that he suspected the tyre valve. After further investigation, and taking it to a tyre shop, we have found that it was actually a hairline crack in the wheel. But I believe that the seller didn't know, so is the luck of the draw I guess. So that wheel is going to Arbarth wheel repairs in Botany.

Brake pads were getting very low, so they went to QFM A1RM pads. Interesting to see that they are marginally smaller than the RS Factory Stage pads.

Also, being anal like I am, I decided to paint the packing plates for the two outside pads. This is a during, and I forgot to take a before and after.
