Neglected and Molested MX5's

Postby speed freak » Fri Dec 06, 2013 9:19 pm

I saw an NA mx5 this arvo actually it was a Eunos import that had obviously been mistreated through its lifetime.

It was this hideous lime green like Kermit the frog green, it had this weird dark navy blue coloured bonnet, extremely ugly aftermarket front and rear bumpers (id say body kit but it wasn't even a full kit lol) had some plastic mould thing around the tail lights in the same horrible green, it was missing a panel from the rear boot/bumper area, the soft top was trashed, the seats were torn, the boot had obviously been used as a spa or something as there was that much rust and discolouring in there, it was missing the side mirrors, it had horrible 17" wheels...

I literally felt sorry and very sad for this little mx5, I mean who does this to a car? maybe on a excel or some sh*t like that but an mx5 and a import Eunos for that matter. I mean everyone has different tastes and modifys their cars different but this... this was dreadful.

Iv never liked body kits on any car, clean simple and tidy is my thing for looks of a car but these bumpers, for example, the front bumper is that heavy its put dents/crease marks in the front side quarter panels...

I don't want to offend anyone by this post either, if you run bigger wheels, have a green car or a body kit of some sort that cool but in this case everything about the mx5/eunos was just wrong. Not just wrong on a mx5 but wrong on any car even an excel lol.

Has anybody else ever seen an mx5 as bad as this or any car for that matter?

I knew a p plater who had a maccas bin lid as a bonnet scoop and a Chrysler front window sun visor as a rear spoiler on a Gemini. He had the full supercheap accessory pack too from seatbelt pads to flashing red LED number plate surrounds.

Wasn't even being ironic.

Got to give the dude credit for recycling lol, although one can only assume that the maccas lid was "acquired".

Peace, love and vegemite. Or hate on 16's because they're too big and ruin the handling. Pick one?

Blue neons are still illegal though.

I use to love driving my beat up, discoloured and torn roof'd NA6 on club cruises.

Was nice to show new members that it doesn't matter how much money you've got, as long as you can get your hands on an MX-5 and you are an enthusiast than you're welcome.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Yours was the crappiest looking MX5 I'd seen at the time...but it's been one of the most fun cars I've been in.

That's true, but this wasn't just faded horrible paint and worn out it was filthy and broken bits n pieces, the colour got me though and the front and rear bumpers were the worst. I think if it was stock body panels/bumpers it would look better but I couldn't believe what I was seeing lol

Feel so proud driving my NA - only this morning having coffee 7am at the roadhouse, so many people walk up and ask questions - one lady refused to believe it was 24 years old!! Always nice to pop the bonnet and show them and also the boot to see the scrutineering stickers etc from when it lived in Japan

Fun fun and more fun!! I'm thinking leave the 86 in the garage and drive the NA south for Christmas on a 3,000km roadtrip!!

OH WHAT FUN IT IS TO RIDE IN A 130 HORSE OPEN SLEIGH!! HO-HO-HO!!

You know the 'go' Speed Freak, you've dríven her!!

I do indeed, its one special NA I absolutely love it, although I love all mx5's. As fun as the 86 is I think you should definitely take the NA or even NB down for the road trip, would be more special.

I haven't had anyone talk to me about mine yet but I got a wave and thumbs up from a fellow mx5 owner while cruising around yesterday, it really made my day that did.

Not a big fan at all of modded cars and there are a lot of MX5s around which have suffered with poor taste. A car can also be old but it does not have to be neglected. If one looks at classic sports cars- mainly British, German and Italian most of the cars are not generally significantly modded at least visually. Many people refer to the MX5 as a classic sports car and I reckon thats right and something which is not going to be repeated.

Exactly a car can be 30 or 40 years old but be in better condition than a 5 year old car if its been looked after and cared for throughout its life. Im not saying because its old its neglected but this one has been beaten up.

I love modified cars I don't see what people have against them. So because a lot of us like to lower our cars and put nice wheels on them that ruins them? Hmm... no car Iv owned has stayed stock and no car I own will ever stay stock... its a way of life you either get it or you don't.
