Radiator hose died :(

Postby omega36 » Thu Nov 28, 2013 9:09 pm

Hey guys,

Was driving home when smoke started pouring out the engine bay, turns out its steam from the top radiator hose which seems to have gone.

It's deteriorated where the piping joins the T piece for my water temp sensor.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement hose? I'm currently stranded and hour away from home and don't want to leave my car her :(

I'm stuck in Toorak/Melbourne!

Since it's urgent take the hose with you to a supercrap or similar, im sure you can find something you can cut to suit if you can't find an MX-5 one.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

You don't need pressure in the radiator if it's just to get you home driving on very light throttle. So take the radiator cap off, bind the split hose with gaff tape or electrical tape or anything like that and refill the radiator (plain tap water is fine for a few days) directly to within a couple of inches from the top. Some servos sell an emergency binding tape for it. Just make sure that whatever you put on can't work loose and get jammed in the belts.
