Do just be aware that Japan use a different frequency band than Australia for FM.
So to use the radio part you'll need to get a frequency expander or something (not 100% on how the expanders work)
No idea about AM radio
Also make sure you get the security code (if it applies to NA radios?)
It's hard enough to get a code from a dealership, I'd dare say it's impossible for an import.

Re: Factory NA6 CD player on YJ
The CD player and radio are actually two individual units. The CD player connects to the radio via a single cable. If you already have the original radio you could use the CD player. This would be great for someone that only wants original parts in their car. Having had one of those CD players previously I can say that they tend to jump tracks a lot..the technology has moved forward in leaps and bounds since the early 90s.

No security code on the early Panasonic head units as used in the NA.

The Sony CDX-1000RF is a much better unit than the OEM panasonic. It looks pretty factory too!
Only problem is it's very, very, very hard to find now. I have 2 squirreled (had a 3rd that was sold at the recent presidents picnic car boot sale) away as I found a Panasonic OEM unit in mint condition and want the factory look, for now.
The advantage of the Sony is that unlike the Panasonic it can still be serviced by a local Sony service centre.
