I spoke to indy and he says that your engine is a little tired after a compression test, you get that, fortunately a good nick stock engine is only a few hundred bucks plus fitting
Happy motoring.

Re: Ivan's Track NA6
Dann where would you source a good engine for a few hundred? I made some calls just to get prepared and was over $1000 for an engine. Also, they say its low Ks but how can you really tell?
My mate has a 1.8 that he fixed...Im wondering if I can use that, but thinking it could be expensive as it will need a new computer and tune?

From a 323 or a laser.
Same engine different external manifolds.

I got mine from a guy in Sydney who wrecks Supras mainly; Southside Jap I think it's called. Quite a reasonable price.
Edit: Mine was an MX5 engine too, not a 323/Laser engine.

Re: Ivan's Track NA6
So the car ran well at the last Circuit Club Trackday a Wakefield with a 1'11'18 on my last session. This was with no rear brakes too as I had stupidly decided a strange sound wasnt worth worrying about and came back with no pads left!
Engine seems to be holding up at this stage so I will just wait and see what happens there. I think its a good idea to get some gauges and then see if I need an oil cooler.
I still feel 1'10 is achievable. I feel though that I am losing a lot of time at the fish hook now as the inside wheel is spinning up on exit.

Yep, still on AO50s...amazing tyre and very consistent. If looking on Natsoft look at Adrian's time. His and my transponder were swapped on accident.

Re: Ivan's Track NA6
Since the Dec Circuit Club Trackday I had a set of Wilwood front brakes and new rear rotors put in. The Australia Day Trackday was the first run with them.
Happy to say I got a new PB of 1'10'6. Starting to brake later, but there is still plenty of time to be saved by braking even later and braking less!
Power cut out at around 5000RPM was quite noticeable. Not sure if the heat had anything to do with it as this only happened after my second session. The PB was set by shifting gears around 5000rpm.

Great work Ivan. I was out at the Aus day CC day in my newly acquired NB, had been attending in my S3 for a few days before that.
I've been thinking of going down the turbo route with the NB... seeing the results here are all the more convincing

Re: Ivan's Track NA6
Progress update:
PB to date with the old set up is 1.10.1
Since then, upgrading to OSG 1.5 way and urethane bushes yielded the same lap time on its first outing, so I still need to adjust my driving style to get more out of it as I definitely feel like I am getting on the gas earlier out of the fish hook. Not much difference elsewhere. The rear left tyre was almost destroyed as I got too excited with the new diff and drove with oversteer on over inflated tyres first session out.
Since then, I've put in yellow speed competition coil overs and 949 sway bar end links. Circuit Club Trackday is on Monday so I will hopefully post back a new PB or at least some feedback on the coilovers. My mechanic has set the coilvers up and the height he has recommended is a fair bit higher than my king springs and koni set up (which is now for sale). The control arm has also been modified to allow more negative camber on the front without having to drop the car. Looks a bit dorky but we'll see how it goes.

I reckon there's about half a second in there.
Maybe washing the grime off would help...less weight and smoother airflow across the bodywork

Re: Ivan's Track NA6
No PB unfortunately! Best was a 1.10.25. Washing it wouldnt help either, it's stained!
Car feels much better after changing to Yellow Speed Coilovers. These have a spring rate of 10kg front and 9kg rear as recommended by Mania. Ran them with 15 clocks from soft front and rear and I didn't feel the need to play around with it yet. The car feels much more predictable and although not faster yet, the times are more consistent. There is time to be saved once I learn to drive the new car, but for now I'm loving how it feels.
Also, these coilovers surprisingly are perfectly fine on the street. I don't daily the car, but I would have no issue in driving it around town occasionally with this suspension.
