MX5 club of SA?

I understand where you're coming from. As a younger bloke (late 20s), I find the SA club to be a bit of a different scene to your usual car enthusiast type group.

However - there is a "splinter faction" within the SA group that are really hot on the motor racing, and often terrorize the larger cars at Collingrove and Mallala, and occasionally at Monarto (motorkhana). I can highly recommend becoming a member of the SA club, so that a) you can get your CAMS license in case you're not a member of a CAMS affiliated club already and b) so you can get to know some of the guys in the motor racing crowd.

There are some guys who are....errm....more mature....than I who can beat the pants off me on bald tyres on the track. And they're out there to help others technically - I once asked a local guy about a CAS O-ring question in passing, and got a 2000 word email a week later on options. Seriously technically savvy guys.

If wineries and leisurely Sunday drives aren't your thing, but you still like the odd cruise, send me a PM - there's an "unofficial" group of roadster guys who cruise Sunday morning that I can introduce you to. Actually that goes for any other SA roadster guys who are interested

I'm a member but have only ever done the Motorsport events. I just don't have time for the other stuff.
Best thing to do is join and see how you like it, it's not expensive.

Just aside ... we were on our way to Meningie today. Stopped at Wellington for a coffee and got swamped by MX5'S!! About 30 turned up! Must have been a Club run lol. Looked awesome watching them all turn up!

I was on the run to Wellington yesterday, a great turnout and a perfect day for roadsters, 57 of us in 31 cars. The Sunday runs are very much a social event and it is fair to say that the average age on most of these runs is a little more "mature", however once you start talking to people you realise that some are genuine enthusiasts who may have raced competitively in their younger years and still enjoy sports driving, and some are still racing. Also, some of these more mature members have cars that are far from standard, such as modified SE's, modified SP's, supercharged NC's etc....Some of the members also have their own workshops and there is a huge amount of knowledge and experience spread across the membership base. Some members concentrate on sprints and regularities at Mallala, plus quite a few run at Collingrove hillclimb and so they concentrate their time on these events. I think its got something for everyone and its a matter of checking it out and finding the best fit for you. I understand the sentiment regarding being involved in organising at some stage having been involved in sporting clubs before myself, however every Sunday run for 2014 has already been organised and there are only 2 or 3 mid week runs left to sort out (for those who don't have work commitments), which is an amazing level of organisation and commitment from a relatively small group. The club President also encourages interaction and discussion on improvements to the club, and the upcoming website changes will make membership more interactive. All in all, a great time to check it out.

Hi samx5 thanks for replying, great post and good to get an understanding what goes on behind the scenes. That's a big turn out for the club I will be tagging along soon I think .
