MX5 club of SA?
Hi,
I have now had my SE for 12 months and have not regretted it once. But I would like to meet fellow mx5ers to share my passion with so I have been looking at joining the SA MX5 club. But I have noticed over the last 12 months that there has not been any updates on either the MX5 events page or the MX5 Motor Sport page on this site. I know their site (SA MX5 car club) has the Club Activities Calendar which is updated regularly but there seems to be little interest on this site. All the other states seem to be updating regularly so is the MX5 club uninterested in promoting their club here?
On the SA site there are only 3 cruises from September to December not including weekdays ( I work full time and have family commitments), Sunday cruise to 1) Mannum (river cruise included). 2) Drive to Seppeltsfield winery. 3) Hills to river run Wellington.
Out of the 3 runs only 2 would be something I may do. Two cruises in 3 months does not seem to be a lot to choose from.
So let's look at what the NSW club has organised, Spinning Wheel Tech Day (I would pay for that), Coffee & Lies (this sounds like a great way for non members to get to know the club and have a chat), The Breakfast Club another great idea.
I know the NSW club would have a lot more members but my point is that they seem to cater for a verity of different tastes.
So I know that if you want something changed, join a club and make a difference but do I pay the joining fee and see if just my opinion will make a difference? By been outspoken you can alienate yourself from other members who have been at the club for a long time any may not want change and lets face it new members just want to be accepted (most of the time) and make new friends who have a common interest.
Please comment and set me straight, maybe I am looking for too much as I am not interested in the motor sport side.
Also this is NOT a dig at the SA club I just don't see that they are active in promoting the club or have little verity to offer.
P.S. thank you to the NSW and QLD clubs for putting their newsletters on their respective web sites, I have enjoyed reading nearly all of them.

Re: MX5 club of SA?
A group of WA club members including myself will for ever be indebted to the South Australian club for their warm and generous hospitality. Everyone I met there was so fantastic, I can't compliment them enough.
I suggest you get in contact with the club, they're probably having way too much fun to stop and update their website.
W.A. put examples of their newsletter MX-Press on their website, if you want a current version you need to be a club member or view the copy mailed out to each of the other state clubs.
Membership has its privileges.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

A single chapter club, such as the SA club, offering about one run per month is an above average effort by volunteers for any car club Maybe you should attend a run as a guest and make an objective valuation. If it's not for you, then that's game over. If it could be for you, then get involved.

Hi Okibi, thanks for the reply. The SA web site is updated I meant there was little activity on here (over 12 months).
I may well contact the club to see if I can tag along.
Membership does have it's privileges but the news letters certainly gave a great impression of what the QLD and NSW clubs get up to on their runs.

Hi JBT, ok because it's a smaller club, one run per month is pretty good thanks for setting me straight

MX5 Club of Vic lets you try before you buy, or did, so agree tag along with SA Club & make your assessment from primary sources.

Re: MX5 club of SA?
I'm President of the NSW Club. We have about 650 financial members spread across six regional Chapters (Sydney, Canberra, Hunter, Illawarra, RPM, Mid North Coast), and two special interest groups (Motorsport and BreakFast Club). The SA club is much smaller as you'd expect from the smaller population it draws upon. They have 73 members as of a month ago, and those numbers are fairly stable. Our experience in NSW is that those numbers can only sustain one or maybe two weekend events per month. They try their best to give variety, but ultimately it's up to the members to conduct & support the type of activities that interest them. It's great that the SA club also manages to support Motorsport activities with half a dozen regular participants.
Des Long, the SA President has told us via our regular MX-5 Club Presidents Meeting that the SA club is in the process of building a new website adopting Wordpress. So I expect they're putting all their effort into building the new site and minimizing work on the old one. This is probably a perfect time for you to get involved with the SA club and have a say about what the club delivers. You would be very welcome to take the club for a "test drive" at a club event in the near future.

Re: MX5 club of SA?
I'm a member of the SA chapter. I don't go on the runs to the riverland/wineries etc as thats not really my type of thing. I do attend as many track days as I can though. As mentioned earlier there are some regulars who do the track days and are really great guys. I get all the emails about the planned runs and how the runs have turned out. I think mainly its people in their middle age who just like to get out with the roof down and enjoy a day with like minded people, which is great.
I highly suggest you get along and meet some of the people and see if its for you.

My wife and I have met a few of the SA Club members when we crossed paths when they were on a run. Nice people. Seemed to be mostly older members (our age

We haven't bothered becoming involved ourselves as we just don't feel like the inevitable obligations. Spent too much time over eight years heavily involved at my son's swimming club. Massive time input! We just don't feel like doing any part of it again.
Like Monty, we'd love to occasionally meet up with others, we just don't want to feel obliged (makes us sound terrible

Best way to find out for sure is to go along and say hello. Nothing to lose ...

Hi Kev, I don't think if you joined up you would be obliged to go on runs, looking at the runs I would only be interested in a few but it would be great to meet liked minded people.

Actually, we wouldn't mind the outings. But if you are doing them, eventually there would be the pressure to help out with the organising in some way, that's what I meant. I know it sounds selfish, but we just don't feel like that sort of obligation anymore.
Just aside ... we were on our way to Meningie today. Stopped at Wellington for a coffee and got swamped by MX5'S!! About 30 turned up! Must have been a Club run lol. Looked awesome watching them all turn up!

As I read your post I got an email about this run today with 31 cars attending! Good guesstimating!
