Damn that extra 1" over the 17X8 makes a huge difference to the look.

Of course it does and so would 17x10's but they're both illegal (as you know) and would attract the wrong 'people' who might look at other "items" which makes them very unattractive.

I know, I know.
It's possible to have 9" engineered for the rear but unfortunately 8" is the max for fronts in NSW.
As for the "items", it appears that the new VSI 06 will give engineers a little more freedom for many "items"

Unlucky bugger in NSW. Yup here in QLD, wheel width is free. Just the tyres cannot be more than 33% bigger.

Hmm,
Can knowledgeable people please take a look at these south Australian guidelines.
http://www.sa.gov.au/subject/Transport, ... +and+tyres

Does this mean 17x9 on the nc is legal in south Australia?
Also looks like rego is cheaper than NSW :)

I'm no expert, but on those guidelines, as long as track width doesn't extend beyond the 26mm and the tyre size fitted is within the specs mentioned and nothing is fouled, it would appear they are!
Our guidelines have been loosened since I last read them!

Rego costs reduced here a few months ago with the changes to third party regs.
