Re: anyone seen these Exocet kit cars using mx5 as a donor
Exomotive have already done a 'mirror' design on most of the frame, they are just working out the firewall. Its multi piece CNC bent DOMEX 700 (really really hard plate) so they just have to make sure that the depth for steering column, mounting locations, master cylinder and pedals all line up correctly. If not, I'll be hacking at mine with an oxy to get it to fit, which I really dont want to do.
As for being lucky to build first 10 frames in a year....Challenge accepted

I dont understand the challenge either. The donor car has chassis that is mirrored already for LHD/RHD markets.

The exomotive chassis is substantially different to the UK chassis. Maybe some of the re-design needs a bit more thought for a RHD steering rack and pedal box or something.
I spent a fair amount of time around the UK kit car scene, honestly they can get away with so much that the US and Aus cannot get away with, no bend & torsion tests for a start and people are so much more willing to do some of their own engineering and figure out their own intallations where the US and Aus markets seem to be more interested in receiving a box of bolt together parts.
The MX150R race chassis used in the UK has a bolt in cage with less triangulation than the welded exomotive one.

Production chassis' can have between 3-5mm difference in mounting holes between 2 cars that come off an assembly line one after the other. That doesn't seem like much, but when you are trying to line things up over multiple points at different locations its a real pain in the @ss.
Exomotive haven't got access to a RHD vehicle, so they're guesstimating location holes in the front firewall. I don't know about you guys, but when I buy something, it want it right, not wrong.

Any reason the dimensions of a UK version cannot be used for the firewall. Or am I thinking way to simple?

From what Kevin has told me, they've changed most of the internal structure to get the torsional rigidity needed for US requirements. Regardless, I've emailed him and said just send the firewall with no holes cut, and I'll sort it out on the first few frames and give him the correct hole locations

Re: Exocet kit cars using mx5 as a donor
Just read this full thread after finding it. I had been aware of something happening with the container thread. Looks Very interesting. Wish I did not have my collection of cars here already as I would be onto one of these for track use. I take it there is someone lined up to do the FG body work? I like the sketched design for body more than the US version. will be interesting to see what sort of body it ends up with or variants. I would love to build one up. I might have to get back into the carbon manufacturing and make up some super light weight parts for these?

Can you post pics of the trailer please? I'm looking for a lightweight one and would be interested to see what you have.

Exomotive have just released their aero bodywork, but it looks nothing like the picture I posted a few months back. Looks better than the current, but not as good as the concept.
I had someone lined up to do my glassing, but he's proving to be very unreliable.
Carbon manufacturing you say???? I could be interested.....
