Go-Kart racing.

So today i got bored and bought a rolling Go-Kart chassis, a Tony Kart. What i want to know is anyone else racing Go-Karts on a circuit? Or even down at the local karting track using the non professional ones.

Just want to get an idea and assure my self i'm not an idiot for buying one .

Just sold up my kart gear after nearly three years of fun in karting. It is a great sport - just make sure you find some people in your class who can help you out when you're getting started.

What class are you planning to run? Have you joined a club? Where are you located?

Well i don't know which class. I'm 33 and 110kg lol so i dont know what class i would be accepted into. 100s maybe?

I havnt looked at clubs as of yet but i live in Melbourne and about 10km from my place is the Somerton Go Kart track. So i guess ill be doing ALOT of the practice there.

I'll jump on kartbook.net now and have a gander.

Go buy a Leopard x30 and start out in TAG Restricted Super Heavy.

I raced both, on their day either can win - but for a beginner, the x30 is infinitely more user friendly.

Sprint kart engines mount fairly universally, it should be fine.

I've had a squirt in an IAME X30 and I have a Rotax, and the IAME is quicker but both are exciting enough, but i've never run the engines with restricters so zossy would have more relevant experience.

What model Tony Kart have you got? One of ours is a tony racer EVR.

It does look like a 2007+ pattern frame. What does the plate say?

It is also missing the engine side seat carrier... Will you run a clamp on carrier? They aren't very good especially at the heavier weights.

My best advice after 40++++++ years of karting is purchase a fully set up kart these are cheap on ebay for what you get just be patient look for one with lost of spare thrown in.

Building from a frame up WILL cost you a ton more than purchasing a complete unit

Ball park figures - what's an entry level kart worth? Any estimates on what it costs to go racing for a year in consumables, tyres, etc?

$5000 for a fool proof cart + entry fees + maintenance +++++++++++ could do it for $10000


12 months with 2 carts trailer, transport , accommodation ect $30000 and we do it on the cheap compared to others

This is a full cart minus the engine. I just stripped it for respray, all the parts are at my uncles factory. I'm thinking I should of kept it green rather change color.

There is a seat but my fat ass wouldnt fit in it.

Looks very similar to that chassis, some minor differences but probably just a different year. Just measure the tube to check its 30mm.
