Foglights and Cluster Lights turn on with Brakes???

Postby 3lite » Tue Nov 12, 2013 10:04 pm

Hey guys,

just got my NA6 running again after its been sat in a warehouse for 18 months and took it for a test lap, everything seems to be running/working though when i press on the brake both the cluster illumation lights and foglights turn on at the same time.

does anyone know why this would be happening and how i fix it?

also its a 1989 eunos roadster (JDM) if that helps

any help is appreciated!

I'll take a guess and suggest it is to do with the dual filament tail/brake lights bulbs. Try removing each of the two bulbs, one at a time and see if that fixes it.

The dual filament globes can only be installed one way, or weird electrical things will happen. The correct installation is usually taken care of by the small pins on the body of the globe. If you are able to confirm that one of the globes is causing the issue then compare it to the good one and see what the difference is and ensure you get the correct replacement......in fact I would suggest that you replace all of the globes.

Hope that helps.

I've also heard of the filaments occationally coming loose (blown bulb or whatever) and shifting enough to arc and short the wrong pins.

Swap the bulbs and see, if not I'd be looking at the fuses (I think the cluster and brake lights are on the same circuit perhaps also the horn from memory?)

Thanks guys,

ended up being the globe, previous owner had replaced the dual filament tail globe with a single filament, easy fix!

Jaffa was spot on. Its a worry that people cannot even work out the difference between a single or twin filament bulb.
