Patchy's stopped dead.

it wasn't the fuel pump. It wasn't any relay, it wasn't the alarm fuel cut out, it wasn't a fuse it wasn't the adaptronic.
It was a dodgy loom which plugs into the fuel pump.

It now has a temporary fix. It will have to be replaced but basically the 12 volt wire had to be pushed back in.


I'm also assuming this was the same problem almost 3 years ago. :shock: :oops: :lol:
I never did attempt to change that fuel pump. The original pump is still working fine. I'm just grateful the plug stopped working when Patchy was parked in my front yard.

Talk about a thread being relevant for 3 years....or taking that long to fix a problem :lol: :oops:

That's got to be a record.

At least when you have a full stop it is easier to trace. It's the intermittent ones that frustrate me. Mine was a fuel pump earth wire loose where it connects to the body. Only sometimes though even while testing. I'm sure these NA's have a soul and just get cranky sometimes! So much like the wife although I nearly sold my car last week but wouldnt sell the wife!

Well.....this has raised its ugly head once again.....typycally that fix of Ampz never got looked at again.

So can someone confirm. Connecting GND & F/P will bypass the fuel relay. so I can just remove that from the equasion?

No idea, I'm no technician but will come back in 2017 for the next exciting segment!! :wink:

Ok still having issues.

I need to still isolate a few things.

Out of the fuel pump com 4 wires
2 black
1 yellow
1 blu/red

The yellow & 1 black is for the fuel gauge
The blue red & the bigger black is for the fuel pump.

I have 8 volts on the yellow
I have nothing on the blue/ red.

Problem 1
When I connect yellow wire to the fuel pump which has 8 volts nothing happens. Fuel pump does not spring into action.

Q1
Should the yellow have 12 volts

Q2
Should this work in theory.

Problem 2

No power in fuel pump .
2 relays to look at. I've replaced the one under the dash.
Is there a simple way to test it?

Problem 3

I have a suspect ignition barrel

Q. Would this have anything to do with it?

Amongs a few dodgy things. It's the fuel pump itself.

When you ground F/P, all you are doing is bypassing the internal contact set in the AFM. That contact set closes whenever air is flowing through the AFM, and opens when no air is flowing. The AFM contact runs to one of the wires in the group of ground wires under the windscreen washer bottle. If the ground is bad, or the contacts in the AFM are not closing, the F/P jumper will provide that ground instead, causing the Coil #2 in the Circuit Opening Relay to close, powering the fuel pump. By the way this will also bypass the safey feature in the AFM that cuts power to fuel pump if you crash the car.

Yea we did check the AFM & so on. The fuel pump even got bench tested. But in the end a big whack wth the. Hammer made it work.


However that ignition barrel thing will be of help. Thank you Juffa
