If only it was accurate! About 15% out... RaceChrono says I was doing 177km/h at then end of the straight. I don't trust it much either.

Fastest laps from the 22/1 mid week sprints at qr. Started raining in the 1st round and had started to dry up by the 4th. The telemetry is off my phone using racechrono... and is questionable haha.

On Sunday I attend the first round of the IWMAC Dirt Sprints for the year. I decide to try something with the set up, so swapped the 24 and 16mm bars out for the standard ones and also increased the pre-load on the rears suspension slightly to give me a bit more bump travel and raise the ride height a little. Tyre pressures were started at 26psi, usually 28, and the shocks set to 5 "clicks" front and rear from soft - the softest I have ever ran them. The aim was to try and give it a bit more grip...

I struggled to keep up with the class. There was the usual competition from an escort and the laser, plus the latest civic type r which is stupid quick! I was about 4s off the civic and 2-3s off the others. The car drove much smooth but I had a lot more over steer than usual. After the 4th(/6) run I decided to adjust a front shocks up a few clicks as it was pitching a lot under brakes (even deceleration!). The track was getting really grippy by this point too which helped. This made the car much better to drive, the tail end staying reasonably in line. I dropped ~1s on the 5th run putting me into 3rd place (fastest run counts) and managed to drop ~2s on the 6th run, giving me ~1s lead on 3rd (the escort) and ~1.5s behind the civic. Really happy with the result.

The car is still for sale - Hopefully sorting out what's happening with it this week.

Nice wheel work. Man Iv still got to give this a go. Spewin I missed out on the come n try day but the first street sprints for the year were on at QR on that day, and I had already paid and registered for that when I found out about the dirt sprints day.

Is the course quit smooth? It looks it. Also is it easy to control? Looks fairly loose grip wise or easy to hang the tail out but is it really twitchy? Much to hit if you do have a spin lol?

If you do sell looking for another mx5 or going for something different?

The course is generally reasonably smooth. It is definitely not as smooth as tarmac though, but it does grip up as the day goes on. Provided your car isn't too low you shouldn't have any problems.

Control is relative to speed - the fastest you go, the harder it is

There are only cones to hit if you spin out. Unless you some how go way off course. I have spun out heaps of times.

Possibly another mx5. Not sure yet. Evo's are getting cheaper :mrgreen:

Nice, looks like good fun.

It would definitely test out my reactions and handling skills. Im getting much better at sliding it around but the mx5 is my first rwd car so first car to ever try drifting and controlling a slide.

Atleast there is nothing to hit apart from cones lol not that I plan on spinning but Iv got a really good chance :lol:

Today is the end of a pretty mad ride. Circumstances lead to my roadster (dubbed Red in the past few months...) to be disemboweled to make room for, and fund, the next level. The car has taught me heaps and it was a little sad to see it go haha.

I started pulling it apart late friday night - spent 2 hours on it - decided sleep was way better! 9 hours on saturday saw it 90% done - sitting on shocks and wheels supplied by the new owner of the shell. Spent from lunch time today doing a few small things on it and tidying up. The carcass went to it's new home at 4 o'clock. It has been an epic weekend!

A big thanks to all my friends that helped this weekend, and to gslender and toppertee for lending me the engine crane and stand, and to all those that have helped over the past few years! A big shout out to AutomotivePlus as well - Jason, Danny, and the team have always been able to help me out.

Personally I think it has a ugly rear end ....
