A turbo kit can be built up on over time starting with a very basic kit for around the 2500 mark including pro tune, this will instantly make as much power as any N/A build you will realistically build for a street car, then you add intercooler, then you add exhaust, then you add injectors, etc etc, much like an n/a build, however the initial buy in price is around the 2500 mark from me. But this will make more power than most street N/A builds and only cost 2500 initially, after another 2-3000 you will make 250whp.

I'm not so sure itbs would be more responsive down low then a turbo. To be honest I find my partners 1.3 Liter yaris more responsive down low then the mx. I just find there is too much torque loss that you need to be around 3.5K, which a good turbo setup would spool pretty fast at I would have thought.

But then maybe I just went top far with the head on a stock bottom end or it just is a poor setup, everyone else seems to make shedloads more ponies.

Might have to do some comparisons once your engine is done mark.

well...since so many people are pointing me in the direction of turbo, and you guys have explained so much, I guess I have to change my mind and go for the turbo build, maybe turbo with ITB if possible. Thanks everyone for you valuable time and knowledge. Goodbye N/A :(

Maybe I will try turbo ITB, so I can have two advantages :D

Whilst Dann could be considered biased towards turbo ...

I reckon Dann is biased - not towards turbo but towards the most cost-effective and reliable power. Which happens, if done correctly, to be turbo.

Are turbo's actually legal in all States- if so what does it cost to have it engineered. Anyone know what are the ramifications with an insurer given that some well known insurers will even refuse a sports muffler.

Shannon's don't care as long as its legal. They only really care if its under or over 5k as it changes the multiplication factor on the insurance (applies to all engine work not just Turbo) . You can get turbos mod plated in qld.

ECU's are only legal if they are locked and meet the relevant emission law. Anything that changes the emissions of the car from stock is illegal, simple.

205whp+ is pretty much a full race engine with cams that would probably never idle for street use. If I could build it then why not?
225whp+ so and the life expectancy begins to shorten. Perhaps 15-30 race hrs and you're looking at a $15-20K long block. I would love to live longer
